April 30Apr 30 Isa Stoppi (1946-2020) was born in Libya and Milanese by adoption (Isa grew up in Italy, in the Piacenza province). Gifted with a magnetic charm, the supermodel was beloved by the world's greatest photographers. She was the muse of artists from Helmuth Newton to Richard Avedon, who coined a famous definition for her: "the most beautiful woman in the world, with two lakes for eyes" to Gian Paolo Barbieri, who called her the "Blonde Isis."Fame came in 1962, when she was chosen to represent Italy in the Miss Universe pageant. The first to bet on her was Paolo Barbieri: his famous photo of Stoppi with a boa draped over her shoulder. Her career was rapid and ever-increasing, born at the court of Diana Vreeland, and she appeared on the covers of the most exclusive magazines, told through the eyes of internationally renowned photographers. Isa ws also called Issa, or Isse, whatever you prefer from the various American metamorphoses of her name. Then came love, marriage, and a farewell to the fashion world in 1972, when she married Gian Germano Giuliani, born in 1937, former owner of the company that produces the eponymous amaro. "I consider myself a lucky person," she said of herself in her biography. "Life has asked a lot of me, but it has also given me so much".Ph. Gian Paolo Barbieri
