Russell James: Necker Island, 2009. Necker Island has a way of doing the work for you. You put people in a place and let the story develop - the photograph is already there, you just have to find it. That rock jutting out of the water caught my eye immediately. When you’re working with someone like Rosie, you can build an entire image around a single natural detail and have it hold together as one complete thing; shape, light, figure, all pulling in the same direction. Everything that inspires me in terms of shape and light comes from nature. Rosie understood that instinctively. That’s what made the frame.
