Carlo Ancelotti: Pato better than Ronaldinho

Carlo Ancelotti has increased the pressure on Milan new boy Alexandre Pato by insisting that he can outshine long-term target Ronaldinho.

The 18-year-old signed from Brazilian side Internacional in the summer and will be available to make his first full appearances for the Rossoneri after January 3.

“I’d say that Alexandre is better than Ronaldinho,” Ancelotti boasted to La Gazzetta dello Sport.

The starlet made his non-competitive debut for the Diavolo in a friendly against Dynamo Kiev on September 3 and marked the occasion with a headed goal.

“He is a phenomenon and with him available we can return to playing with two strikers,” Carletto revealed.

The struggling European champions are eagerly awaiting his contribution to their Serie A campaign and sources inside the club suggest that he has shown devastating talent in training.

Despite Milan’s poor form, Ancelotti concluded by maintaining that his side are still in the title hunt.

“I still think we can win the Scudetto because it is a very strange and even championship this year,” he stressed.

GALLI: 'Pato is extraordinary, Ronaldo was born for the goal'

MILANELLO - At the end of the training match with the Primavera, coach Filippo Galli expressed his opinion on the goalscorers of the match: "Ever since he came I've been impressed with Pato. He always scores, and aside from that he always thinks about doing something useful to the team. It's not easy to find players of this calibre. Of course we're talking about training matches, but also in the earlier games he played with Milan or before, with other clubs, he showed he is an extraordinary player. Ronaldo moved around well, he has the goal in his DNA, his comeback is important because we know how much other players fear him."

AC Milan’s Brazilian stars shine

Alexandre Pato and Ronaldo were the stars of the show as they went head-to-head in a training match at Milanello.

The Rossoneri were due to play a friendly against Serie C2 outfit Varese, but opted instead to play an internal test game.

All eyes were on striking starlet Pato and his compatriot Ronaldo, who is returning from a long-term thigh injury.

Neither man disappointed and the match finished 2-2 with each man bagging a brace and winning high praise from youth Coach Filippo Galli.

“Ever since he arrived Pato has impressed me,” he enthused. “He always scores and he is the kind of player who isn’t afraid to bathe in sweat.

“It’s not easy to find players of his calibre. Obviously these are just training games, but he has shown himself to be an extraordinary player in Brazil and in friendlies.

“Ronaldo is also looking good. He is a born goal scorer and his return will be important, as opposition sides fear him.”

Coach Carlo Ancelotti was also happy with what he saw and indicated that Ronaldo’s frustrating spell on the sidelines would shortly come to an end.

“Ronnie wants to play and he would have surely played part of the game in Bergamo,” he revealed. “He’ll get time in Cagliari.

“Pato is a great champion and he will prove it. All we have to do is wait until January when he is available.

“The only worry that he has at the moment is that he hasn’t learned very much Italian, but luckily footballers don’t have to say that much.

“He goes a lot on instinct and that’s something that you have inside and it can’t improve or deteriorate.

“He is lucky that God has given him that quality. Now he must exploit it and use it for the good of the team.”

Pato is available in official games from January 3 when his move from Brazilian side Internacional is finally complete.

PATO CALLED UP BY DUNGA

RIO DE JANEIRO - Pato is the only 'foreign' player called up by coach Dunga for the Brazilian Olympic team who will play a friendly on 9 december. All the other called up players, who will form the basis for the Beijing Olympics squad, play in Brazil, five of them in the second division. Among them there will certainly be Rogerio Ceni of San Paolo, who's the world's leading goalscorer among goalkeepers.

Alexandre Pato selected as part of Brazilian under-23 squad

Dunga begins the country's Olympic preparations from selecting AC Milan striker Alexandre Pato, who scored 12 goals in 26 games for Internacional over the past two years, as part of a Brazilian under-23 squad.

The Brazilian U23s will face a Brazilian league select side in Rio de Janeiro on Dec. 9.

Pato played the last two years for the Porto Alegre-based Internacional before transferring to Milan during the European summer. Because he turned 18 on Sept. 2, he is not eligble to play for Milan until January.

He was the only European-based player selected, although others may be added. Dec. 9 is not recognized by FIFA as an official date for friendly games, and many clubs could refuse to release their players.

"It's up them to show their potential," Dunga said on the confederation's Web site. "It's the player who earns a berth and shows he has condition to be summoned again."

Dunga selected three players each from Cruzeiro and Atletico Paranaense, as well as two each from Internacional, Gremio and Coritiba.

Dunga said all the players are on a broad list of athletes with a chance to make the final cut for the Olympic squad.

"It will be a great opportunity to see them up close in training camp, the players that we've been observing for some time and are on the early list of players we'll call up," Dunga said.
