Born in Oslo, Norway, in 1969, Peter Hyde Dundas is both a designer and the artistic director of the historic Italian brand Emilio Pucci. His father, a Norwegian doctor, has raised Dundas since his American mother, who was part of the Huston Symphony, died when he was 4 years old. Since he was a child, he strolled around second-hand markets buying and personalizing clothes with his sewing machine. At the age of 9, Dundas became member of the regional theatre company, while at 14 he left Oslo to move with his family to South Bent, Indiana. In 1990 Peter obtained the diploma at Parsons School for Design in New York and two years later he moved to Paris and began his career as an assistant costume designer for the Comedie Française. Soon he became design assistant to Jean Paul Gautier. In 2000 Dundas left Gautier and moved to the other French couturier Christian Lacroix. Two years later he moved form Paris to Florence to become the chief designer at Roberto Cavalli. He worked for the Italian designer until 2006, but in 2005 he started to collaborate with Emanuel Ungaro, a French fashion brand, and in a year he became creative director. Dundas put on his first Ungaro show in 2006: it was the turning point of his career and one of the most exciting moments of his life. In 2008 Peter moved from Ungaro to the historic French furrier Revillon where he became creative director. For his first collection he has drawn the inspiration from disrespectful “rock’n roll girlfriends” such as Marianne Faithfull, Anita Pallenberg, Bianca Jagger and Kate Moss that are nowadays his greatest muses. In October 2008 he became the creative director of Emilio Pucci. Dundas, a former hockey player with the passion for kite-surf and scuba-diving and a nature lover who likes the colours of the ocean and Greece, is in line with the spirit and glamour of the cosmopolitan clients of the fashion house based in Florence in the sumptuous Renaissance Palazzo Pucci. In March 2010 Peter left Revillon to restore the image of the Pucci label, reinterpreting the aristocratic style and the famous psychedelic prints of the Tuscan fashion house, exploring and reinventing them through continuous research in the fashion house’s archives, the most glamorous and nightlife side of the job. Dundas wants to be "respectfully disrespectful" towards Pucci’s heritage. Peter identifies Pucci’s girls with young, refined, open-minded, aristocratic and rebel women. Thanks to his sophisticated and provocative clothes (made to be taken off) in short time Dundas has conquered both young heiress of the international jet set such as Eugénie Niarchos and Julia Restoin-Roitfeld and well-known stars of the entertainment such as Kylie Minogue, Rihanna and Blake Lively. Dundas, who loves drawing, has developed a healthy obsession for women’s body, in particular for legs, short dresses and body language, which is the main secret to be sexy. Never bored to live among fabrics, scissors and coloured pencils, Peter loves people who pay attention in choosing their dresses. Dundas has an animal instinct, which allows him to balance tradition, innovation and personal experience and from which he draws his inspiration; he has talent, which one day would like to express in the haute couture; and he has passion, which pushes him to do his job with professionalism and to have with a constant smile on his face.
