to not follow any ideology - perhaps the most important characteristic of the conservative mindset. of course not everyone do. :} perhaps that's why he won - he just used the party as a vehicle. reaction & reactionary were propaganda catchwords during the darkest communist times against arbitrary "enemies of the people" . on the other hand, conservative people tend to be "reactionary", that is, they react to the subversion and depravation of the left.
