The fashion house that introduced us to a naked Kate Moss, an almost- naked Mark Wahlberg in his underwear and Christy Turlington-Burns in form-fitting bodywear is returning to its very sexy roots with a blockbuster new fragrance for women called REVEAL. Following the urban-themed Downtown with a brooding Rooney Mara, the New York-based brand is pushing the envelope with a voyeuristic ad campaign staring former Victoria’s Secret Angel Doutzen Kroes and Sons of Anarchy start Charlie Hunnam.
Remember this is the same brand that in 1980 featured a 15-year-old Brooke Shields cooing “Do you know what comes between me and my Calvins? Nothing.” That one line caused a sensation and sold millions of pairs of jeans in a matter of months. Eva Mendes also starred in a Calvin Klein ad, this time for 2008′s Secret Obsession. She rolled around on a bed topless. US networks instantly banned the TV ad so it only lived on the web. For this new launch, Kroes and Hunnam play a seductive game separated by distance. They peer at each other through a glass, high-rise apartment.
“Shooting the sexy ad campaign was amazing,” says Kroes. “I felt like I was in my apartment looking across the distance at this handsome guy, and I was revealing myself and asking him to come over. It was a really nice game to play.”
The fragrance itself is bold and original – unlike the fruity-florals the dominate the market right now. Derived from quality ingredients and unique accords, this new scent defines a new olfactive category – the solar Oriental, characterized by unexpected freshness and enveloping warmth. For the first time, a highly sensorial raw salt accord captures the traces of the erotic scent of skin. It melts into a heart of orris and a drydown of sensual sandalwood, a favourite ingredient of Klein. There are also notes of black, pink and white pepper, ambergris, musk and cashmeran. This is sophisticated and modern.
The bottle itself adheres to Calvin’s minimalist aesthetic: the square-edged silhouette is paired with the pillowy contours of the cap. The 100 ml eau de parfum spray retails for $110.
