Gemma Ward complemented her gorgeous red lips with a floor-length white halter Toni Maticevski dress at the Sydney premiere of The Black Balloon at the Dendy Opera Quays in Australia last night. Chic Report got a few details from the supermodel cum actress before she hopped on a plane. How did it feel to celebrate your role in this movie? It was incredibly exciting…I was thrilled to see it all come to fruition and celebrate with all of the talented players who participated in the film. How did you know this was a role you wanted to play? Jackie was such a free spirit–she was someone that I could relate to while reflecting on my own childhood. Black Balloon brings a beautiful message to the world…I was honored from the very beginning to play a role in bringing it all together. What did you do to prepare for the role? I actually read all my old diary journal entries that I wrote when I was 15 years old! I also listened to ’90s music (i..e MC Hammer) to bring myself back to that time. Hanging out with my twin brothers and being a tomboy helped free myself up a bit and help me relate more closely with Jackie. Can you relate to the character? Yes of course — she very much resembled me as a young girl — free as a bird, silly, and quite a tomboy! How did you chose which dress you would wear on the red carpet? The minute I saw the Toni Maticevski gown, I knew it was perfect for the occasion. I adore that dress - it’s the epitome of elegant, Hollywood glamour. [[i KNEW IT!!!] What are your plans now? Relaxing? More work? I will take it all as it comes to me…but I look forward to renovating my new apartment!

The Black Balloon staring Gemma Ward wins Berlin Film Festival award February 21st, 2008 Gemma Ward has been spotted around Sydney looking rather unmodel-like in a “tres dorky” outfit. rumour has it it’s because she’s due to walk down the red carpet for the Sydney premier of her first movie, The Black Balloon, on Wednesday. The coming of age movie staring Gemma Ward, Toni Collette, Rhys Wakefield, and Luke Ford won a Crystal Bear award for best feature by the Generation14plus section’s jury of young film buffs at the recent Berlin Film Festival. “We were especially impressed by the way in which joyous and serious moments were expertly interwoven, and also by the actors’ excellent performances,” the jury said. “The reception we’ve had at the Berlinale (film festival) has been overwhelming and we’re really thrilled the audiences have loved the film so much,” said writer-director Elissa Down. The Black Balloon is set to hit Australian cinemas on March 6, with a US release not yet on the cards. I feel so proud for her. PS- The premiere will be next Wednesday night in Sydney if I'm not mistaken...
