assuming there are 17 models (as SI reported) and only 4 rookies (based on the teaser video), that's the smallest rookie class...probably in decades. certainly since they started with "themed" issues (1997) and the concept of rookies (1999) this year will also be tied with the fewest number of models since 1999. the issue used to have a lot higher turnover. recently, though, they've maintained a consistent roster with much less space for new models. girls come back for 4-9 issues even if they never get the cover. this is anne v's 9th issue, irina and julie's 7th, jessica gomes' 6th...and only one cover among them. go back a few years and it's hard to find models like that (bridget hall and laetitia casta were rare exceptions with 5 and 4 issues, respectively) i guess the lesson for models is: make buddy-buddy with mj day and darcie baum, and you've got job security! if not, well, i'll still be there for you, kim cloutier...

she'll still be on letterman. it will just be in a different context / premise.

btw, i feel sure there aren't more than 17 models. there are more than 17 guesses, as of now. the issue will contain 17 models (i.e. girls who model for a living) plus a few non-models like athletes and katherine webb. as witnessed by the 7 continents example, i do believe SI is better at counting than we are

the first half of the video identified past rookies of the year. as in, it listed a year and then the rookie of the year from that year's issue (e.g. kate was 2011's rookie of the year; anne v was 2005's best rookie, etc). being in the first half of the video does not mean they will be in this year's issue--it was just showing clips of past rookies from shoots during their rookie years. the second part of the video showed four rookies for 2013. that one unidentified frame with the wicked underboob was later matched with this image, which is definitely not tina but more likely kate bock given the hair and, now that i look at it, body. (whoever it is, i'm ready to declare them rookie of the year right now based solely on that pic. damn.) ps. nina shot in australia and ariel shot in south america . of course, models can have more than one shoot, but i doubt they'd send anyone to australia and south america. so that final shot in the teaser probably isn't nina and ariel. more likely, it's two rookies.

my final prediction is that this is the suit that will grace the cover: or at least that's what i would go with...

i suppose you're counting katherine webb in that five? my assumption is that she'll be in some other section, like atheletes or WAGs, not a rookie i only count four: emily didonato, kate bock, natasha barnard, and hannah davis. those seem to match up well with the brief glimpses in the teaser video and the four silhouettes at the end. not sure why SI would have tina (or katherine) as a rookie and yet not include any glimpses of them in the rookie teaser. was there even a single pic from mj day that looked like tina? i could be wrong, but the 'evidence' for her appearance seems much flimsier than the other rookies. if i was an oddsmaker, here would be my odds for the cover: nina 60%, kate 20%, anyone else 20%. kate has more name recognition, but she has a few things against her this year: 1) she's already been on the cover and consecutive repeat covers are increasingly rare. tyra was the last one, and kate is no tyra. yes, technically, she was on the 2011 cover inset, but i'm not counting that 2) she's already been on the cover of every other magazine (including, i believe, the economist, better homes and gardens, and cat fancy) 3) her cover last year was not well received i'd also bet tina brady will not be in the issue. why would she be allowed to tweet her shoot's location when other models are on twitter lockdown? also, there was no part of that rookie teaser video that looked like it could be her. the end of that video showed four profiles and it seems four rookies were already identified or confirmed if only someone could confirm my guesses...

the real question is: who is this? it's hard to tell, but i don't think it's any of the three rookies who have been named yet.

This is the 50th issue and the 49th anniversary of the 1st issue.
