Natalia Vodianova
I stumbled upon this old article from Vanity Fair January 2005, and wanted to post it here now because of this quote from Bruce Weber. He said: " I really wish Truffaut were alive because he would love putting her in a movie", which is not a little compliment, knowing that Truffaut has been of the most influential french movie director, and that Weber himself is a movie-director (he has directed a movie about jazzman Chet Baker that has achieved great success with critics).

About Natalia's ability to play dramatic scenes, I think she will be good... If you haven't seen it, you could take a look at Bruce Weber clip for the Pet Shop Boys "I Get Along". She is playing in it, and her "character" is quite different of what Ariane will be, but she is quite intense... About the love scenes, I hope it will stay in the spirit of the book and that the commercial aspect won't be the most important regarding the choice of how to do it...

Yes, hope the scenes have been written in a subtle way, with the touch of humor which is in the book... About the love scenes, I hope it won't be done in the american way (nothing shown under the clavicles !), and not too implicite, because it's a very important part of the story, but I also hope they will not show it in a too romantic way... About the "embarassing scenes", maybe they will only show the pictures, in little... I'm really curious to see how they will do the scene in Marseille, at the end of the book, when Solal got crazy about Ariane's first lover, and when they change from one hostel to another... it's very intense and terrible, but I think really interesting - and challenging- to play...

For me, I just can't wait to see how they will do all the scenes in the bath, and all the scenes where she is alone at home, preparing for Solal's arrival..

Like you I was quite surprised and afraid when I first heard of this, so I did a little research... About actors: Solal is quite an ambiguous and versatile character, and I think Jonathan Rhys-Meyer is really a good choice, because the character he was playing in Match Point was also -in a different way- quite versatile, and the way he played was really impressive. Marianne Faithfull is actually a good actress, and I'm really curious to see her play Marinette, the domestic of Ariane. And about Ariane, she is both really sensual, and also a bit like a child, dreamy, innocent, full of humour, and I think Natalia will play that in a wonderful way, because it's the feelings she naturally convey. About director: Glenio Bonder did commercials, which was at first not a good thing for me. I had a look at it (on youtube), and actually, they are really poetic and funny, quite subtle -for commercials- which was a good surprise. And then I discovered that he directed for the french TV a documentary about Albert Cohen (writer of Belle Du Seigneur), that won a prize and had really good critics. And also that Albert Cohen's heirs and wife wanted him to realize the movie. And when the news of the movie was first released, it was announced that the director of photography would be the one that worked on The Girl with the Pearl Earing, whose images were absolutely amazing. So maybe there is a possibility that the movie will be good...

Article about the story of Belle du Seigneur "First published in Paris in 1968, Belle du Seigneur is considered the masterpiece of Albert Cohen, a Jew who served the Zionist leader Chaim Weizmann, who became Israel's first Prime Minister, and worked for the Intergovernmental Committee on Refugees after World War II. This tortuous love story revolves around an adulterous affair between Sola, the ostentatious son of the Chief Rabbi of Cephalonia and Ariane d'Auble, a beautiful, blonde, Protestant aristocrat. Threatened by impending war and the growing anti-Semitism of Europe in the mid-1930s, the two struggle to keep passion alive. While Ariane molds herself into the perfection of femininity, Sola takes on a bitter cruelty that translates into revenge against the ostracism of himself and his people." source: http://www.dvdsnapshot.com/2010Josh/Belle.html

Well, all those stupid article about this supposed divorce are getting pretty boring ! Especially this one, in which most of the "informations" are totally false... Well, if they don't event know the basics things that everyone having google and a brain know about Natalia... not exactly what I call a reliable source... According to Forbes, it was 3,5 million last year Justin has denied that in a russian newspaper "In an interview with the newspaper "Komsomolskaya Pravda" Lord Justin Portman denied a report in French magazine "ELLE" of an impending divorce with Natalia Vodianova. - Yes, I know that they have written ... I was terribly annoying! - Justin told reporters. - You can write: we do not divorce! And this is perfectly true." (post by sunshine 06 in this forum) They're not living in New York since years... Totally wrong, years ago, during his first exhibition, all of his work of art were sold, and he is from one of UK's wealthiest family. "Vodianova's husband is The Honourable Justin Portman, who is a professional artist. Portman is the son of a Viscount and scion of one of Britain's wealthiest real estate families which owns huge swathes of London." (source: imdb)- Natalia Vodianova
