This might be an interesting role for Leo to do if it comes to be considering DaVinci was inspiration for his first name and his being an avid art collector Leo Meet Leo: Paramount, Universal Vie For Walter Isaacson Da Vinci Book For DiCaprio Leonardo DiCaprio Wants to Play Leonardo da Vinci, But Which Studio Will Buy the Book for Him? August 11, 2017 Leonardo DiCaprio wants to play his namesake Leonardo da Vinci in a movie. The question is, which studio is going to pony up for Walter Isaacson’s new book about the legendary artist/inventor and give The Revenant star an opportunity to win his second Oscar? Universal and Paramount are locked in a heated battle for the book heading into the weekend, and while Paramount is believed to have a slight edge given the fact that it has a first-look deal with DiCaprio’s Appian Way banner, it may come down to money… and whether Paramount has any to spend on this kind of prestige literary acquisition. Paramount has been waiting on a $500 million investment from China’s Huahua Media that has yet to arrive, which has reportedly prompted studio executives to fly to China to try and rescue a deal that has been discouraged by the Chinese government. If the studio is low on funds, is it really wise to plunk down big bucks for a Leonardo da Vinci book just weeks before the studio starts releasing its fall slate? Universal is believed to have made a very strong offer for the project, but Paramount is well within its right to match it under the terms of its deal with Appian Way. The only reason Paramount wouldn’t come away from this book battle victorious is if its war chest is running low. But let’s say money isn’t a factor, and take it out of the equation. If there’s any reason Isaacson opts against choosing Universal, it may be the fact that the studio wound up with the Steve Jobs movie based on his biography of the Apple co-founder, and despite a great writer, director and cast, the movie failed to make much of a dent with critics or ticket buyers (though I personally liked it quite a bit). Regardless of which studio wins, expect Appian Way to produce this movie as a potential star vehicle for DiCaprio, who still hasn’t decided what he wants to do next. He’s also attached to star in Paramount’s The Devil and the White City as well as several other projects around town, all of which seem to be moving quite slowly despite DiCaprio’s involvement. And this is an actor-producer who puts a lot of thought into picking his projects. Isaacson reportedly used Da Vinci’s personal notebooks to research his book, which will be published in October by Simon & Schuster. Expect more clarity on this situation tomorrow, as ICM Partners is brokering the auction. For more details, check out Deadline, which broke the news on this one.

One of the best perks of our job is meeting and interviewing celebrities. But actually spending a day with an Oscar winner on a tiny island? That’s certainly a first for us. So we couldn’t believe our luck when Leonardo DiCaprio gate-crashed our recent trip to the Maldives. WAIT, WHAT? HOW? Team Ahlan! was fortunate enough to be invited to attend the Summer Lovin’ Beach Festival hosted by 1OAK at the luxurious Finolhu resort in the Maldives. We were promised a variety of top DJs and a performance by Robin Thicke (who never showed up), but we never expected Leonardo DiCaprio to swing by. Oh, did we mention Tobey Maguire was also there? Sadly Tobey decided to keep a low profile during his visit, so we didn’t get to hang out with him. WHAT HAPPENED? On Saturday 29 July, we headed to Finolhu’s exclusive Fish & Crab shack restaurant, which is practically located on a sandbank at the very end of the island – basically in the middle of nowhere. It’s reachable by boat or a 20-minute walk along a narrow sand path. While we opted for a boat to the restaurant (it was a hot day, ok?), Leo decided to walk there. We found that surprising, because despite staying at the nearby Amilla Fushi, a 30-minute boat ride from Finolhu, he insisted on having a seaplane fly from the capital Malé to Amilla, and then to the nearby Finolhu. In the history of the resorts, they’ve never had to fly a guest from one hotel to the other. Until Leo, that is. AND THEN? Leo sat down at the table behind us, where he had lunch and enjoyed some drinks with the 1OAK crew and their extensive posse, which consisted mainly of Victoria’s Secrets models. It’s no secret Leo loves being surrounded by models, but this was insane (in fact, there were too many of them to count). At one point we were even swimming next to Leo in the azure waters of the Maldives, where he played volleyball with his mates YOUR PICS MUST BE AMAZING! Well, kind of. Leo isn’t a fan of selfies, so we had to improvise, because we’re paparazzo like that. WHAT ABOUT THE PARTY? Later that night, 1OAK hosted a party in the bar, which Leo attended. He seemed relaxed, and mingled around the dance floor, despite being offered a VIP section on the upper level. We even spotted him chatting away to a shocked honeymoon couple, who couldn’t believe their luck. At one point, one of his friends offered to introduce us to him. “Where are you from?” he asked. To avoid sounding boring with a ‘UK’ or ‘South Africa’, we answered “Dubai!” We went on to congratulate him on the $30million he raised at a recent event for his foundation, to which he replied, “Thanks, sweetie”. After that we tried to keep it cool and just nodded during conversation, for fear of perhaps blurting out something awkward. WHAT A NIGHT! It gets better. In the early hours of the morning, everyone, Leo included, decided to jump into the pool. We then jumped in too, obviously. At that point we realised we were floating in water, in the dark, alongside Leonardo DiCaprio, and all of our teenage Titanic film memories came rushing back. It was at that moment we decided to yell out “NEVER LET GO, JACK!” (which is exactly what we meant by ‘blurting out something awkward’). Much to our relief, Leo and his friends all thought it was hilarious and had a proper LOL. We then decided to call it a night, before we started singing the Wolf of Wall Street chest-beat song. AND LEO? He kept on partying till around 7am or so the next morning at one of his friend’s hotel villas, before taking the private seaplane back to his room at Amilla Fushi. He’s clearly got a lot more stamina than we do.

The actor and his friends, who spent around a week in the Maldives, had missed their Qatar Airways return flight on Monday due to a delay in their domestic flight from the resort to VIA, stated Maldives Airports Company Ltd (MACL). DiCaprio and his friends were able to purchase tickets on an Emirates flight and finally departed after a five-hour wait. The rumours that first began to circulate on Monday night claimed that DiCaprio was delayed due to some technical problems on the private jet he had arrived in.
