Maria defeats Ivanovic for 500th career win

Maria has recorded her 500th career win as she advanced to the final of the Mutua Madrid Open. Maria defeated No.16 seed Ana Ivanovic of Serbia 6-4 6-3 in an hour and 17 minutes.

Maria is making her first appearance in the final in Madrid and this is her fourth final of 2013. Since winning Rome last year, Maria remains unbeaten on clay and this is her 21st straight win on the surface.

In the first set, Maria got the first break in the fifth game as Ivanovic netted a forehand and Ivanovic broke back immediately in the next game. Maria took control of the set by breaking Ivanovic to lead 4-3 with a forehand winner. On set point at 5-4, Ivanovic's shot floated long as Maria took the first set 6-4 in 38 minutes.

Ivanovic raced into a 2-0 lead in the second set but Maria won five of the next six games and won the match on a blistering crosscourt forehand winner to book her spot in Sunday's final.

In Sunday's final to be played at 1.00 PM local time, Maria will play No.1 seed Serena Williams of the United States. Maria has played Williams fourteen times before and trails the series 2-12

Maria Sharapova sends note to paparazzi after win

Earlier this week, the worst-kept secret in tennis was confirmed when European paparazzi snapped pictures of Maria Sharapova“snuggling” through the streets of Madrid with her boyfriend, 21-year-old Grigor Dimitrov. The photos were taken one day after Dimitrov upset world No. 1 Novak Djokovic.

Previously, the coupling of the Russian tennis star and the Bulgarian up-and-comer had existed only in rumor, innuendo, blushing denials and cryptic messages during interviews. The pictures made it officially official.

So how did Sharapova react when the cat was finally let out of the bag? With a smile and good humor, courtesy a delightful message written on a camera after her quarterfinal win in Madrid.

“How did you catch us??” she wrote with a smile.

I don’t know, but traipsing cheek-to-cheek through the streets of a major European city that happens to be hosting a dual-tour tennis tournament couldn’t have helped.

Maria advances to Madrid semis

Maria is through to the semis of the Mutua Madrid Open for the first time after she defeated Kaia Kanepi of Estona 6-2 6-4 in an hour and 22 minutes.

The first set took 34 minutes as Maria raced into a 4-1 lead. Maria dropped only one more game throughout the set and won set point on an ace.

After a trade of breaks at the beginning of the second set, Maria got the decisive break to lead 4-3. At 5-4 40-15 on Maria's serve, Kanepi hit a return into the net as Maria recorded her 20th consecutive win on clay.

In the semis to be played on Saturday at around 1.00 PM local time, Maria will play No.16 seed Ana Ivanovic of Serbia. Maria has played the 25-year-old eight times before and leads 6-4.

Maria Sharapova and Grigor Dimitrov spotted kissing in the streets of Madrid

The rumours have now been confirmed. Maria Sharapova and Grigor Dimitrov are now officially a couple. The two were spotted together in the streets of Madrid, hand in hand and at one point were also kissing passionately.

Dimitrov and Sharapova have been rumoured to be dating since the beginning of the year but neither side had confirmed or denied the stories.

The 25 year old Sharapova is the world no. 2 and the highest earning female athlete in the world. Dimitorv is 21 years old and ranked no. 29 in the world. He defeated world no. 1 Novak Djokovic in the second round in Madrid on Tuesday and thanked his girlfriend for inspiring him to the win.

Sharapova's good looks have made her one of the most famous women in the world while Dimitrov has been nicknamed Baby Fed for many years now due to his likeness in game to Roger Federer.
