Variety’s Jeff Sneider confirms, that Joe has actually been offered the role of Peter Quill in Guardians Of The Galaxy.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt of ‘Dark Knight Rises’ may play Star-Lord in superhero epic ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ “Guardians of the Galaxy” concept art. Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s competitors for the Star-Lord role include “Zero Dark Thirty” star Joel Edgerton, “Cloud Atlas’” Jim Sturgess, “Boardwalk Empire” alum Jack Huston and Zachary Levi of “Chuck.” As if being the next potential Batman weren’t enough, Joseph Gordon-Levitt is reportedly circling Marvel Studios’ superhero epic “Guardians of the Galaxy.” The 31-year-old “The Dark Knight Rises” star is on the short list of actors to play Star-Lord in director James Gunn’s epic about a team of intergalactic superheroes, Deadline.com reported. He joins a crowded field of actors that includes “Zero Dark Thirty” star Joel Edgerton, “Cloud Atlas’” Jim Sturgess, “Boardwalk Empire” alum Jack Huston and Zachary Levi of “Chuck,” according to the report. The end of “The Dark Knight Rises,” which suggests Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s character is prepared to take over from Batman, has fueled speculation he might take on the role in “Justice League,” especially since Christian Bale has said he will not reprise the role without director Christopher Nolan. Nolan is believed to have finished with Batman movies. Unlike his distinguished competition, however, Gordon-Levitt has some superhero experience, having played a cop who becomes a de facto sidekick to Batman in “The Dark Knight Rises.” At the end of the movie, the final installment of Christopher Nolan’s trilogy, Levitt’s character seems poised to take up the cowl after Bruce Wayne’s apparent death. That climactic reveal has led to speculation that the actor will play a new Batman in the upcoming “Justice League,” Warner Bros.’ answer to Marvel’s blockbuster superhero movie “The Avengers” – especially since Christian Bale has said publicly he won’t play the Caped Crusader again unless Nolan returns to direct. Marvel has high hopes for “Guardians of the Galaxy,” which is based on superheroes that first appeared in the comic books in the 1960s. Joseph Gordon-Levitt Joins List of Contenders for Marvel’s Guardians Of The Galaxy Word of Gordon-Levitt’s involvement comes via Deadline, who report that Marvel has added JGL to the list of actors they are considering for the lead role of Peter Quill. There’s no confirmation of whether Gordon-Levitt has been offered the role, but he’s certainly the most high-profile actor that has been mentioned thus far. For those unaware, Peter Quill aka Star-Lord was born of a human mother and alien father, and he’s a master strategist and combat expert who wears an ability-enhancing suit and pilots a psychically-linked ship. The character will serve as the audience’s introduction to the galactic world of Guardians of the Galaxy in Marvel’s space-set film.
