Milan coach: Ronaldo will be ready MILAN, Italy (Reuters) -- Ronaldo will be fit to play in AC Milan's first game of the Serie A season against Genoa on Aug. 26, coach Carlo Ancelotti said on Wednesday. The Brazil striker pulled a hamstring towards the end of the previous campaign and has yet to feature in preseason. The 30-year-old Ronaldo will miss Thursday's friendly at Real Betis although attacking colleague Alberto Gilardino is back after knee surgery. "Ronaldo will be available for the first match of the championship," Ancelotti told a news conference dominated by questions about Brazilians. New signing Alexandre Pato, who according to media reports cost $30 million from Internacional, cannot feature for Milan until January under the terms of the deal but Ancelotti has already been impressed by the 17-year-old forward. "In January he will be able to play immediately," he said. "In theory he could play with us today. He could calmly demonstrate even in this team the characteristics he has already shown." Ancelotti also denied fresh speculation in the Italian and Spanish media linking the European champions with Barcelona playmaker Ronaldinho. "Ronaldinho? Talking about him in April could have made sense but today, almost in the middle of August, it seems to me it is a 'no' really," he said.

GILA ALL AHEAD The Rossoneri’s attacker is fine and has a great desire to prove all of his worth: “I have a great desire to score goals and I hope this is a great season.” – GILARDINO’S DECLARATIONS – MILANELLO – Hereunder is an interview of Alberto Gilardino with Milan Channel: In training Alberto Gilardino has already proven to be fit: “I’m definitively fine. In this period I have been working very well, I did not take part in the Moscow tournament, but I stayed here to train with my trainers: the knee is responding well, this morning we made some important tests, they are the first ones and I’m satisfied. We still have a lot of time to work and improve on a lot of things, but I’m already at a good point: I’m happy.” Do you agree with those who tell you to risk more, like you used to do with Parma?: “In these last two years with the Rossoneri at times, maybe, I gave that sensation: in some occasions I did not risk like I did maybe at Parma. However, when I arrived at Milan many things changed, it’s true, I must find back that instinct which I always had, that instinct which made me do well during the matches. I’m fine, this year I have a great desire to prove this, to score goals and I hope it’s a great season.” The discussions on the performances in the Rossoneri’s shirt have made Alberto Gilardino ‘angrier’?: “You mature, I already have an important age and certain things I assimilate them. I have been playing in Serie A for the past seven years, I saw many episodes, but I have always managed to overcome them with great strength of character. In these two years at Milan I have also built myself in character, it’s important to continue doing well on the pitch. The most important responses are given there and for us attackers the goal is the most important response.” Today Alexandre Pato made his debut at Milanello. The Brazilian talent is just 17 years-old; for such a young striker, what are the fears when you go in such an important dressing room like that of the Rossoneri: "Pato must not fear anything. I saw him on TV, he has great qualities, we must let him work with tranquillity, without putting any pressure on him and I think that he can become a great player. He already is and in this environment he can become even greater.” Alberto Gilardino has a personal objective for the 2007/08 season? “Mine and for all the team: the European Supercup and the Intercontinental Cup, without forgetting the league, Champions League and Coppa Italia. These are all important objectives, but I think the first two represent the fundamental ones.”

Liverpool To Intercept Roma's Move For Cicinho? Goal.com Liverpool are set to challenge Roma with a bid for Real Madrid's Cicinho as Rafa Benítez looks to continue strengthening his squad before the season starts. The Brazilian has been strongly linked with a move to the Italian capital, but has stated that he would rather remain at the Bernabéu and fight for a place. Benítez is hopeful, however, that the personal terms on offer at Anfield, said to be around €3m-per-season, could tempt the player to move to the Reds. Roma have made their interest known and a number of their players, including captain Francesco Totti, has talked to Cicinho about joining them, but the club would be unable to compete financially with Liverpool. Madrid have, so far, not received a concrete offer but appear unwilling to allow the 27-year-old to go out on loan and will only let him leave at a price. With the Premiership starting this weekend, Liverpool are still keen to add another piece to their jigsaw and see the former São Paulo star as the man to give them more options down the right. Benítez is reported to have made contact with Madrid as he continues to pursue a new right-sided player after pulling out of the race to prise Daniel Alves away from Sevilla earlier in the summer. Cicinho can play on either side at full-back or in midfield, although his favoured position is right-back, and it is that versatility that is attracting Benítez to make an offer of around €10m. During pre-season, the Brazilian has not had much chance to impress and it is believed that Bernd Schuster sees Sergio Ramos and Michel Salgado as his two right-backs. After being linked to Roma, Cicinho admitted that his wife was settled in Madrid and that she would take some persuading to move to Italy. Liverpool would have to overcome that barrier too if they want to persuade him to uproot and move to Merseyside.
