Guti: The Liga's Still A Two-Horse Race Real Madrid midfielder Guti is convinced that Barcelona still have what it takes to mount a title challenge... Speaking to Spanish sports daily Marca, Guti contended that Real Madrid's seven-point lead at the top of La Liga was far from unassailable. "It's too early to talk about winning the Liga title, considering how many matches are left," said the veteran playmaker. "The difference isn't so great that we can think that we've already won. "But we're on a good run. If we continue at home with strength, without dropping points, then we have a great chance, but last year Barcelona had more points than us yet we ended up champions." While he felt the campaign wasn't over, the 31-year-old recognised that it was in Madrid's hands. "If we keep on winning, we won't rely on anyone else," he noted. "There are many matches and lots of league games to go. Record points totals? We're not talking about records - just titles." Guti may have another chance to stake his comeback to the team, after being largely sidelined lately due to Julio Baptista's rise to prominence. Dismissing the idea that he'd fallen out with the coach, Guti said, "I get along well with [coach Bernd] Schuster. "He's a man who, since he was a quality footballer, tries to get his teams to play well. That's what he tries to put across. "The personal relationships he has with the players are good - he's not married to anyone. Any player who's one hundred percent ready had a chance to play, which we all appreciate. "My red card [at Murcia]? That's not why I was dropped. It was a mistake - I said it at the time - but I don't feel that's why I was replaced. "I hope to have some continuity in the team, but it's the coach who makes the decisions as to who starts and who plays in the second half. I'm at his disposal, and I'm fine with that. We all need to do what we can." Soon comes Villarreal and Deportivo, although unlike fellow challengers Barcelona, Madrid have no Copa del Rey matches to contend with. "As for Villarreal, we're aware that they're a great team with great players, people who can reach the very top, and can score with ease," he warned. "Our recent home games with them have been very even, so we must be careful. "The Copa elimination? That was a sharp prod of warning to us."
