CHILDHOOD: Kerry Jayne Elizabeth Katona, was born on the 6th September 1980. Her mother, Susan Katona is a manic depressive. Kerry said, “One minute we’d be laughing and joking, the next she’d be telling me she wanted to die.” Susan got pregnant after having an affair with a married man, who subsequently abandoned her and Kerry. Kerry never knew her father, but knows his name and where in the country he lives. While Kerry was growing up and trying to cope with her mother’s depression and suicide attempts, she also had the hard task of living with her mother’s abusive boyfriends. The pair lived together in increasingly difficult circumstances, sometimes staying in women’s refuges. Social services were called when a violent boyfriend stabbed her mother, and this is when Kerry was taken into care. “Some of Mum’s boyfriends used to beat the crap out of her and me. One night, a row started. This particular bloke slapped Mum and I saw blood spurting from her. She screamed and then he turned on me. I saw the flash of a knife blade and I thought he was going to kill me.” Kerry then lived in a number of foster homes until she was 16. Fred and Margaret Woodall looked after Kerry in 1993, said “She told us she loved her mum and wouldn’t swap her for the world.” At 16, Kerry left the Woodall’s and got a flat of her own as she wanted to be more independent. She left Padgate High School and got a number of jobs including, working in a chip shop, working as a BT sales adviser, as a glamour model and a lapdancer. It was these shots of Kerry naked surfaced when she was in Atomic Kitten. ATOMIC KITTEN: Atomic Kitten started off as Kerry Katona, Liz McClarnon, and Heidi Range. Even before the band started Heidi left. This is where Natasha (Tash) Hamilton arrived to take Heidi’s place. Kerry came up with the name Automatic Kitten, but the name changed to Atomic Kitten shortly afterwards. They got a contract deal with Innocent Records, and soon released their debut single, Right Now, in November 1999. Right Now went into the charts at No.10. Their second single, See Ya, reached number 6. In August 1999, on the Smash Hits road show, Kerry met Bryan McFadden, who was a member of Westlife. Kerry refused to go out on a date with Bryan. It was only after Kerry came back from Japan that they started to get on with each other. Bryan dumped his girlfriend and managed to get Kerry on a date with him. However, things didn’t go to well with Atomic Kitten’s as their next singles did not do so well and their first album didn’t seem to impress people. Their record company was just about to drop them when manager, Andy McCluskey persuaded the record company to let the Kittens release another single, Whole Again. This was the band’s first number one. Kerry later left the band to give birth to Molly and to look after her. BRYAN + KERRY: Kerry and Bryan kept their relationship a secret for as long as possible. They had only been going out for 4weeks when Bryan proposed to Kerry at Doe Castle, Donegal (Ireland) on December 28, 1999. They kept their engagement a secret for a year and then decided to tell the world about their relationship. Their pictures were released to Hello Magazine. THE ARRIVAL: August 31, 2001, came the arrival of their first daughter, Molly Marie McFadden. She was born in Mount Carmel Hospital, Dublin. Straight after the birth came the task of getting to fairytale wedding set up. They got married the 5th January 2002, at Slane Castle in Ireland. ….Then came the sex scandal involving a lap dancer (Amy Barker) and Bryan on his stag night. This destroyed Kerry, and it was made worse by being in every newspaper. At the time Kerry was filming Elimidate abroad. Kerry and Bryan stuck at their relationship and at the time said that it made them fall deeper in love with each other. Kerry said that the scandal brought them together and made them both stronger, claiming that they are “soul mates”. Their second daughter, Lilly-Sue McFadden arrived on the 3rd Febrauary 2003, at Mount Carmel Hospital, Dublin. QUEEN OF THE JUNGLE: At the start on 2004 Kerry joined other celebs including Jordan, and Peter Andre, in ITV1′s, I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here. This proved to be a big challenage for Kerry and she was determined to stick at it, but within days she wanted to go home. This was because she missed her baby daughter’s (Lilly-Sue) first birthday, which upset Kerry. To Kerry’s surprise she became Queen of the Jungle. She faced many fears, and completed her challenges, including a sinking box, eating bugs and a number of other inside tasks. All the celebs managed to raise more than 1 million pounds, for there chosen charities. Kerry’s charity was for Temple Street Hospital, Dublin. AFTER THE JUNGLE: Bryan left Westlife in March 2004 to be with the kids and Kerry. Kerry got a job as a presenter on ITV’s Loose Women and also as a columnist for OK! Magazine. Brian then left Kerry is September 2004, and later went out with Delta Goodrem (they are now engaged). After this Kerry hit rock bottom and turned to drugs. She has now turned herself around, and after going out with a few guys she found her self the man she always wanted… MARK & KERRY: Kerry got married to Mark Croft on 14th Feb 07. She gave birth to their first baby together in Feb 07, a daughter called Heidi Elizabeth Croft. On July 15, 2007, Kerry, Mark and Heidi were taken hostage at their £1.5 million home in Wilmslow. Three home invaders held them captive and threatened to rape and kill them. They took the family’s mobile phones to make sure they could not contact anyone. Kerry was held at knifepoint downstairs whilst the other men forced her husband to show them where the valuables were kept. None of them were physically harmed but the burglars eventually left with a blue BMW and other valuables, the total loss being in the region of £100,000-150,000. The family moved in with relatives but soon returned to the house, which they had moved into about two months before the attack. On 19 July 2007 Police found the car, which was not damaged, 10 miles away on Reeves Road in Chorlton, Manchester. Kerry and Mark have since bought an German Shepherd (Kai) to guard their house. She announced in late September 2007 that she was expecting her fourth child, her second with husband Mark Croft. It was feared that she suffered a miscarriage but further examination found the foetus was still alive and due in May 2008. On 30 December 2007 she announced that her fourth child would be a boy named Maxwell. Five weeks before the due date, and after two days of labour, she gave birth to a 5lb 4oz baby on 11 April 2008, at 5.42 pm. The whole birth was filmed on MTV’s documentary – Crazy in Love (which is an insight into her life and to prove newspapers wrong that she isn’t still on drugs). On 13 March 2009, Katona’s financial advisor Frank Cochran read a statement to the media stating that Katona and Croft had decided to divorce. On 16 March 2009, it was reported that Katona and Croft had reconciled. In February 2010, the media reported that Katona had separated from Croft again after he accused her of becoming romantically involved with fitness instructor Kevin Green. Katona went on holiday to Tenerife with her youngest daughter after the split. In early March 2010, the media photographed Katona throwing a number of plastic bags, allegedly filled with Croft’s belongings, into a skip AND NOW After Kerry split from Mark she signed a new contract with Can Associates. The same management team as Peter Andre. She has also moved to Godstone, Sussex with her 4 children. MISC Kerry used to have a regular column in OK! Magazine, and has the job of being the spokesperson for Iceland frozen food stores in newspaper and television advertisements and has also been paid to promote Asda. She lost her Iceland Contract in August 2009. She is a Patron of The Shannon Bradshaw Trust, a charity based in Warrington, helping children with life-threatening conditions, and their families. On August 21, 2008, Katona was declared bankrupt at the High Court in London after failing to pay a tax bill.
