Ah, that sucks... looks like EA-like tactics.
But at least Skyrim is older than both those Fallout, so I guess they started with it later? Though neither Doom nor Skyrim are solo games: Skyrim being The Elder Scrolls V, and Doom a reboot of an already rather long series with a new release rather recently (with I haven't yet played).
But yeah, in general I really don't like this trend of having tons of DLCs for every game.

Dark Souls 3 is the best games in terms of gameplay IMO. It's hard, demanding, but very rewarding. Your character is both weak, but potentially extremely powerful when you become good. Imagine you're Bard and you're up against Smaug... That's the type of fight you'll live in this game.
The Witcher 3 is the best game in terms of story IMO. Here you'll live a story that is the Polish equivalent of the LOTR
(with lots of differences... but same kind of spirit). And the music is one of the bestest
Skyrim is great!
And who cares about the rather outdated graphics if the game is good anyway. It has a good story, TONS of in-game lore and I really enjoyed the playability.
Most I've heard about the Dark Souls games is that they're insanely difficult. Which makes them interesting of course
