Valdano apologises for Madrid upset Real Madrid director general Jorge Valdano has apologised to his club's supporters following their humiliating Copa del Rey exit. Although missing a number of star players such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Kaka and Xabi Alonso, Madrid still put out a strong team packed with internationals for the first leg of their round of 32 clash at neighbouring Alcorcon. However, that did not save the Spanish giants from suffering one of the biggest upsets in their illustrious history as they were thrashed 4-0 by the third division team. It took Segunda Division B side Alcorcon just 16 minutes to go ahead and they were 3-0 up by half-time and 4-0 ahead by the 52nd minute as Manuel Pellegrini's Madrid crashed to their third defeat in five games, having also lost to Sevilla and AC Milan, Valdano said after the match: "It's difficult. I know how the Madrid fans must be feeling and we apologise to them." Valdano believes Madrid can still turn the tie around in the second leg at the Bernabeu in a fortnight though, and also gave his backing to under-pressure coach Pellegrini. "This team is made of up good players and great professionals who are capable of turning this situation around. They are proud players and today we've had really a bad night. "We have to be united. And when I say united, I include the coach in that," added Valdano on his club's website. Pellegrini said in quotes reported by Marca: "I'm very embarrassed. There's no reason or explanation for how the team have performed. You have to stand up and everyone has to take responsibility to change things in the next game. "There's no explanations. We were focused and the training sessions were very good, but Alcorcon played very well. "We hope our fans can forgive us after this defeat." Pellegrini is no stranger to cup shocks, having been in charge of a Villarreal outfit that were trounced 5-0 by Segunda Division B Polideportivo Ejido at the same stage of last year's competition before going out 6-1 on aggregate. Madrid, who have not won the Copa del Rey since 1993, were also the victims of an upset last season as they were knocked out at the fourth-round stage by another third tier side, Real Union, on away goals after drawing 5-5 on aggregate. Pellegrini said: "Our opponents...we've seen it 3,200 times before. A team who were tremendously motivated and were able to play at their best. I saw them in recent games, we had reports, but they played very well. "We need to react. We are going to find difficult opponents all over the place. We need to play well everywhere. Regarding his future at the club, the Chilean insisted he would not be stepping down, adding: "I am not thinking about my job or about resigning, only the next match

Raul: Madrid can still win it Real Madrid icon Raul claims that if anyone can come back from a four goal deficit it is the boys from the Bernabeu. Real were humbled 4-0 in their Copa del Rey first-leg match against local outfit Alcorcon - who play two divisions below the capital club - despite fielding a team that included stars such as Raul, Guti and Karim Benzema. Speaking to Spanish daily Marca the club captain said "The first thing is to apologize because the image is not what this team or the history of this club deserves. "The tie is not lost despite all that has happened today. This team will take pride. The positive thing is that we have done as bad as we can do and we cannot play that bad again and know that many people want to see us play well and win the game." And Raul insisted that his side can still win the tie, and must show their resilience in the forthcoming Primera Liga game with Getafe. "This is football and we have been humbled by a team that has worked with high hope but if a club knows about comebacks, it is Real Madrid. This is a long road, we have a test with the return leg and one in four days against Getafe. "The great comebacks of the club have occurred because there was always very bad games before. The tie is not lost, we must congratulate Alcorcon but we still have the second leg," Raul declared

Cristiano Ronaldo: I cry for love Cristiano Ronaldo has defended his alleged playboy lifestyle by saying he is 100% professional during the season. The Real Madrid striker also told Cadena SER that he is unattached at the moment. The former Manchester United winger was linked with celebrity heiress Paris Hilton during pre-season after he left the Premier League. Ronaldo told Cadena SER: "I'll be up front. During the season no one can point fingers because I am an exemplary sportsman, but vacations are there to enjoy and I do what you want. This is my belief." "I've done more in my early-life. And no, I do not have a girlfriend now." "I have suffered like everyone who has loved. I am a sensitive person and I cry for love." Ronaldo is trying to recover from his injury to help lift Real Madrid out of a mini-slump. He is expected to be contention next week when Real visit AC Milan in the Champions League.

i think Iker and raul albiol are the ones responsible for the defeat cuz since he's become no.1 goalkeeper,Iker has been a disgrace.Hes been concedeing so many goals which he didnt befor.i think ramos didia good job cuz he was assigned the duty of keeping Ronaldinho off the mark.whiich he did.Ronaldinho didint even get 1 chance to score. Its silly to sell Ramos.Iker was TOTALLY sub standard....he needs a reality check,BIG TIME!!!!! the match would have been won f benzema and Kaka didnt waste so many good chances,If ron was there,he might have converted them....

Last Tuesday, an anonymous Spanish sorcerer claimed that he had been hired to place a curse on Cristiano Ronaldo, which would cause him to suffer an injury. Sh*t got real the following day, when the Real Madrid superstar picked up an injury that made him miss the match with Seville, which turned out to be Los Blancos first loss of the season. Keen to give this highly credible story more publicity, Sport today have extracted more details from the media-savvy professional sorcerer, who is said to be a 57-year-old based in Malaga named Pepe (presumably, he is no relation to C-Ron’s crazy teammate of the same name). The witchcraft expert has revealed that he was hired by a woman who was “deceived” by the Portuguese man-o’-sex. Given his penchant for ladies of ill repute, this piece of information doesn’t exactly round things down, but Pepe also describes his client as “very famous, rich and not European”. Therefore, the Spanish press infer that the prime suspect is Paris Hilton, who has publicly admitted that Ronaldo was “too gay” for her

Raul backs rotation policy Real Madrid captain, Raul has backed Manuel Pellegrini's insistence on utilising his full squad for the season. The Spanish forward knows the demands of a long season will start to show as the season moves into full swing and is not worried about having to sit on the bench from time to time. Speaking to Real Madrid's official website, Raul said: "Everyone in this squad must feel significant and that is the case," he was quoted as saying by the club's official website. "We know how much is demanded of us with matches every three or four days, and we all want to win. It is good that there is competition, that minutes are divided and that we reach the final few months well rested. It is a wise decision." The living legend went on to explain how he is unafraid of facing up to the challenge from starlets Karim Benzema and Gonzalo Higuain. "I feel valued and respected and I am very proud of my career. I am happy to be able to play at this level after 15 years and with the team-mates I have," he continued. "I am satisfied with the enthusiasm there is to win titles and I hope Real Madrid accomplish their objectives this year.
