The "Woman in Sea" shot is also Cindy. Not a big fan of Tatjana, but I love the shot of her with black sand. And the Christy waterfall shot is amazing. Ritts was fantastic. It's funny sometimes how gay men can have such a deep love of the female form. He really was instrumental in creating the whole supermodel phenomenon. It's true that he an unusually fabulous group of girls to work with, but he made them even more fabulous, helped turbocharge their careers, and gave them a sophisticated, international, almost outlaw kind of glamor. God bless him; I'm sorry he passed. wow, I enjoyed your opinion and agree 100%! In my own one Herb and Gianni Versace were the big Supermodel makers, Herb gave them mainstream power since many of what what he did with the girls was for publications out of the fashion world, Playboy, Rolling Stone, Vanity Fair, music videos, commercials etc etc

Oh, that's interesting. Thank you! The following year (1989), Cindy would be the cover of rival SPORT magazine's swimsuit issue. She is the most-featured model in that issue, which included other top models from Elite (Kelly Emberg, Carrie Nygren, Jill Goodacre, ...), with photography by Glaviano, who was also doing the Elite agency swimsuit calendars. So there is kind of "that feeling" of a disagreement, or a spat of some kind (money?, who got the cover?, or what?), with Cindy's agency placing her and other of its top models in a rival publication. Kathy Ireland was still with Elite (she is in the '89, '90, and '91 agency swimsuit calendars) though, I believe, and she certainly continued to appear in SI. Glaviano shoots for SISE in '96, but I think no other time. By any chance, do you recall where you read it or saw Cindy's comments? Thanks Steve, Cindy appearing in Sport Magazine in 1989 makes sense, probably she was looking for other options. I think she knew that Sports Illustrated was very important, models like Paulina and Elle have said that SI did for them more than any other fashion job or Vogue Cover, in terms of popularity. Cindy also said that her 1988 Playboy spread was a movement of that nature, she wanted capitalize the attention of the guys, those that didn't read Vogue. she said all of that in this Lifetime TV Show that later was released in VHS http://www.amazon.com/Intimate-Portrait-Ci...S/dp/1575236745

Hi. It's from the 14 March 1988 issue of Sports Illustrated, page 4, "Letters". It won't be in "HQ", but Sports Illustrated has the entire issue available online, for free. Several weeks after publication of the swimsuit issue (February), SI would (sometimes?) run a collection of readers' letters complimenting/criticizing the swimsuit issue. SI would also sometimes run an additional picture (or two), as here. Like this one of Cindy, there are a couple of Kathy Ireland, for example, that were published in a "Letters" follow-up and (to the best of our understanding) never anywhere else (not even the calendars or diaries). Given the number of frames that you would expect Hispard would have shot with Cindy, it's surprising that one and only one made it into the actual swimsuit issue. This is the second of the two total published in SI that we are aware of. Sometimes the shots just turn out crummy and you don't find out until too late, but why they only printed these two is a story I'd like to hear. Cindy said that there were problems between Jule Campbell and her, practically a catfight so she was not surprised about seeing only one picture published, they were discussing about the outfits that Cindy would wear but Jule, editor of the swimsuit issue - didn't like opinions from the models. And then, Cindy said, thought that she didn't need Sports Illustrated so she created her own successful calendars and that's how she would cover that swimsuit market.

Those Gianni Versace bikini pics are from mid-late 1992, 1992 = Shape Your Body Workout, everything was under control. In 1992 she started her collaboration with Helmut Newton, he always adored bodies like hers, and becasue of that body she was also the favourite of Herb Ritts. She looks bigger than the other models next to her but it's not a flaw like you are trying to point out, that was her success. well, that was not the first nor the last time she was standing next to other supers, we've all seen a whole lot of group pics with the supers, and i never noticed as much difference of her body from the others as much as on those pics, that's why i was talking about "a period" she got a little bigger, she always looked slimmer than that in the other pics, and i don't think that if there wasn't some truth behind it Donatella Versace would have said anything about it to begin with, if she did there must have been a reason, and since they knew each other very closely she might have known something we didn't (Donatella says Cindy was the first of the supers she got to know personally)... and also being someone who gains weight easily myself, i garantee you it can only take less than a couple of weeks to notice a pretty consistent change in body shape if i don't take care of it and lose control, so the fact that the two things belong to the same year means close to nothing, but anyways, let's agree to disagree, i keep my thoughts, you keep yours Cindy always had a stronger body than the other runway models, she was in the same league of models like Ashley Richardson and Kathy Ireland, no waif at all. Obviously you don't know her career as I do so I'm wasting my time with you, have a nice day

i was just reporting what i read, and those are not my words, so stop being so sensitive and get a hobby.... jeez!!! your words were that she was fat compared with nadege and Yasmeen, and what I wrote is that she was never fat, period, get over it. i get over stuff when "I" decide i want to, not when you tell me to, my dear...don't twist people's words, cause i said she looked just "a little bulkier compared to the other two" in THOSE pics (which doesn't mean "fat", you said that word), and she does look a little bulkier than the others there, fix your damn eyes already...and that's the reason i thought Donatella Versace was referring to that period in the interview, cause SHE and not me was the one to call her "fatty" (that's what "grassottella" means) so go ahead and get mad at her if you want to...and last but not least, if you don't like the broadcast change the station dear, you don't have to read what i type, let alone answer to it, so might i suggest you to get some other business to be in, thank you very much your replies are very bitchy gay I'm not your dear thanks god! Cindy Crawford has always had a voluptuous womanly body, only a freak weirdo would consider her bulkier than the rest, if the others were anorexic that was not her problem, the others were thinner than her.

you're entitled to your opinion but Cindy was never considered fat.

the last few in HQ.. I think she was a little bit bulkier in those years compared to the following years, just compare her with Yasmeen & Helena right behind her to see the difference...she got better later on, maybe because she was told to drop some pounds....i remember reading an interview with Donatella Versace in an italian magazine talking about Cindy and this very issue of her few extra pounds in the late 80's....she was already beautiful anyway, but after that she became one of the most stunning creatures ever seen
