  1. Clearly, I haven't paid enough attention to these guys over the last few months. This one is a bit like The Strokes if they replaced Julian with Napoleon Dynamite, which needless to say, I use as a compliment. :hehe:

  2. ^Tricky to pinpoint anyone specific - I can detect a little of Lykke Li in her voice, but the general approach (resolutely pop but drawing on folk and electro themes) reminds me more of Ellie Goulding. Also thought this song was pretty intriguing (forgive me Don, as it's not from 2012 ). Squint your ears a bit and it could be Kate Bush doing 'It's Blitz'-era Yeah Yeah Yeahs. :hehe:

  3. I guess it goes without saying that they'll have to go some to equal the second movie, but for what it's worth I believe they've really nailed Bane as a character. Menacing, imposing, calculating and just generally spot on. The showdown between he and the returning Batman is going to be absolutely chilling.

Additional: one of the best things my eyes have seen in a while - the movie trailer recreated using old clips from the Batman animated series.

  4. Without wishing to engage too much in idle speculation, I wouldn't be surprised if we see Joseph Gordon-Levitt's character as a stand-in Batman for at least part of the movie. The trailers hint at some kind of incapacitation for Bruce Wayne and I see a little of Christian Bale's facial structure in Joseph.

  5. Well, we've all been there...

Man threatens police, demands pizza, Paris Hilton

Fredrick Denney of North Carolina found himself in trouble with the law after allegedly causing a disturbance at a hotel then barricading himself in his room.

A North Carolina man barricaded himself in his hotel room and refused to come out until his two demands were met - pizza and a marriage proposal from Paris Hilton.

Fredrick Denney threatened to open fire on the police while he was locked in his Hampton Inn room in Belmont, N.C., Saturday morning, WCNC-TV reports. Several agencies, including the Regional SWAT Team, responded to the incident and closed off the second floor of the hotel as they tried to negotiate with Denney. Authorities attempted to reason with the 61-year-old for hours until they finally pepper sprayed him and cuffed him. Denney allegedly caused a unspecified disturbance in the hotel hours before the stand-off incident. This is not Denney’s first run-in with the law. Officials say he’s had several encounters with SWAT teams in other states in the past.

  6. STOP EVERYTHING! :o

Peter Crouch to make chat show debut

Stoke City striker, Peter Crouch, is set to host a new chat show with ex-Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher rumoured to be among his first guests. On the Couch with Peter Crouch will mark the footballer’s television-presenting debut. A Sky TV insider has described Crouch as ‘a smart guy’ who ‘takes on the role of a chat show host well. ‘The idea is he will go and visit people at their homes or workplaces and chat to them in a quirky way.

‘It's more Ruby Wax than Michael Parkinson as it's supposed to be more of an entertainment show.’ He praised Crouch’s ‘good command of the English language,’ suggesting that this was ‘not something many footballers have’. The programme is expected to be broadcast later this year.

  7. ^Yep, just debuted on radio this morning

First single "Elephant" will be out later in the month too

I think my replay button is worn out. The album's going to be great. :bounce:

  8. I don't think it's the case of the more famous you are the more haters you get.

I mean who can hate Messi (YES- I'm a Barca fan :p )?

Most soccer-players don't really seem to stand out in ways of their personal life, and ones that do (in a kinda bad way) like Ronaldo, Beckham and Balotelli seem to generate a lot of negative attention for being different.

i actually would say it's more famous in the way of being a celebrity, not just being known a lot. Ronaldo and Beckham both do charity work, etc in their personal life but it's their celebrity status that has rubbed some fans the wrong way. they want their players to be players, not in the celebrity spotlight and the red carpet (this is even more so when the player isn't preforming).

There's no question that Messi is the defining player of this generation (don't tell Cristiano ;)). Apparently, he even makes more money than David Beckham these days through commercial sponsorship and bonuses. But he's not one of those inescapable celebrity figures like Beckham, Ronaldo and Sean St. Ledger (okay, maybe not that last one) have become. I'm not sure you'd necessarily recognise him or know his name if you weren't already a football fan.

  9. Only in the sense that he was never blessed with the natural technique of a Messi or the pace and raw athleticism of a Ronaldo. His success on the pitch was always more of an advert for spirit, dedication and hard work than extravagant gifts. Will I remember Beckham as one of the true all-time greats? Probably not. As one of the best of his generation? Without a doubt. You certainly wouldn't play for United, Madrid and Milan if you were average, and the sheer volume of goals and general chaos his crossing provided from that right wing was just incredible.
