  1. @ALPAT the amazing thing is I just found her on the cover of Dec 28, 1995...but it's a totally different issue and cover...
  2. @ALPAT Regarding the GENTE magazine we were speaking about above, I just heard back from the National Library of Argentina and there isn't even an issue with the Dec 28, 1996 date - they sent me back the cover of Dec 26, 1996 (Thalia is on the cover as per attachment below) and told me I needed to provide them the correct date of Valeria's cover. Do you have any feel for when this issue actually was? If you know for sure it's within a certain scope of time, maybe I can get the librarian to flip through the issues to find it (I may ask her anyway, how hard can it be just to look at the covers?). Could it have been Dec 28, 1995? I'm trying to see if I can get a better cover (without the scan signature) and also to see if the cover picture is also within the magazine itself... 3. Does anyone have any of these 1999 Elle magazines or know who is on their covers?...interested in all of these but especially the bolded ones... Elle China (April 1999) - James King is on the cover of this, does anyone out there have this issue? Elle Mexico (March, July 1999) Elle Norway (March, April, May, July 1999) Elle Taiwan (June 1999) Elle Thailand (April, July 1999) Elle Turkey (June 1999) I have been looking for a particular photo for about 22 months and within the past couple of months remembered/realized that the model was James King. And have now narrowed the possibilities to the above issues. The photo I am looking for is included in a fashion editorial that almost certainly is not anywhere on the internet. James King was on the cover of at least one of the above issues and the photo and editorial is included in that issue. My best guess is the issue I'm looking for is Elle Thailand April 1999 and the cover probably looks something like Elle Greece April 1999 below (there are various reprints of the original cover from Elle UK February 1999):

  5. Elle Chile May 1999 (scan received from the National Library of Chile) I'm trying to find what reprints exist of James King's Elle UK February 1999 cover and have come across so, so many Lonneke reprints in the process, as noted earlier in this thread. I have yet to hear from a number of National Libraries...of the ones I'm waiting to hear from we will see if Lonneke is on the Greece, Mexico or Norway covers...small chance of Turkey as that started in May 1999 and the June 1999 cover is unknown but is being asked for by me...
  6. Well, if nothing else, that means the number of possibilities drops from 13 to 12. Of course, the end of the search was not going to be that easy! Yeah, I finally realized that James King was the model and that she was also on the cover of the magazine that I am looking for. And of the magazines she covered, Elle UK February 1999 is the only realistic possibility (but it's not in the UK issue so has to be in one of the reprinted other country versions). But...do they reprint covers and then do an editorial inside with that same model? Because that has to be what we have here. At the moment, Elle China April 1999 becomes my best bet as its the only one of the three known reprints that I haven't yet checked (wrote to the Capital Library of China yesterday and am waiting to hear back). Then, there are 11 other countries (I am in the middle of writing to all of their National Libraries) that may or may not have reprinted the UK cover. So, perhaps there may be one or two more possibilities. Logically, my photo has a 100% chance of being in what is left...but I can still forsee it somehow not being there... My very last resort is I'm going to open up a Twitter account and write to Jaime King herself as you never know... Thanks a lot for checking!
  7. That blows my mind that you have that exact issue! I've been looking for a particular photo from September 2018 to February 2020 and picked up the search again in June 2021, so about 21 months overall. Between 1700-1800 magazines looked at in one way or another. Was looking between 1988-2001 before realizing in early 2020 that the photo was very likely in the January-July 1999 period. About a month ago, I finally realized that James King was the model and that she also covered the magazine my photo was in. That's the short version of the story... Here's the description librarians around the world have been working with (recently updated): The model (now known to be James King) has dirty to light blond hair. I believe she was sitting on a beach or sand dune, with her feet a little lower than the rest of her body and her arms maybe resting in her lap, on her knees or between her legs. She was wearing I guess what would be called a white peasant blouse/dress (I think it laced-up in the upper part). Bare shoulders - I think. With either sandals or bare feet. But, the most distinctive part - she is wearing maybe 15 or 20 white and silver bangles on each arm. The easiest way to find the photo is to look for a lot of bracelets or bangles (that will eliminate almost all photos from consideration immediately and you will come across only a few that will have any chance of being the photo I'm looking for). She is by herself in the photo and I believe is facing at least slightly to the reader's right as you look at the photo. I believe the photo I'm looking for was between pages 120-130 or possibly 220-230. I think there was some kind of vacation or bohemian theme in this editorial. IS THIS WHERE THE SEARCH COMES TO AN END?
  8. That's the Elle China April 1999 version of the original Elle UK February 1999 cover. I don't think this is the right issue but it is one of maybe only four possibilities. This one is from Elle Japan May 1999 and I think this has a better chance of being the right issue. I remember orange more than I remember purple (I had the magazine only as long as it took me to getting around to extracting the one interior photo that I wanted). I got these from the international covers archive - I have to go back and make a definitive final list (all covers are not there and I think Thailand and Taiwan at the very least may have used this same cover). In the end, I will need to find these issues, have them looked at to see if my photo is there and then get a scan or at worst a color photocopy of my photo, with possible language barriers or copyright issues coming into play. I just hope I don't end up coming all this way for nothing. I may even have to hire someone on the ground in Beijing, Tokyo, Bangkok or wherever to help me with this if that ends up being the only way.
  9. @Rocket Queen, thanks for that. I'm trying to weigh the possibility of that versus her (turns out to be James King) being on the cover as I think was the case. What I think I remember is looking at the small cover photo that's mixed in with the Table of Contents and finding out who she was that way. If I'm correct, I have narrowed down my search to magazine issues that she covered, which were not that many in the time period I'm looking at and most I have been able to rule out. The twist is I have actually ruled out all of her ORIGINAL covers - what is left are a few issues where other countries used the exact same cover in later months. In this case, the REAL cover was Elle UK February 1999 but Elle Korea (tentatively ruled out), Elle Japan and Elle China also used the exact same cover and there may be one or two others in Asia also (I don't have complete knowledge of all covers - YET). I am cautiously optimistic about Elle Japan - I just hope I can get a scan or copy wherever it ends up coming from (if I do in fact find it).
  10. I have a very important question for you all. Let us go back in time to 1999 and presume we are looking at an issue of Elle (country unknown). We are looking at a general fashion editorial (the kind with an underlying theme as opposed to being specifically about the model or models in the shoot themselves). There is one particular photo in the editorial that we like and we are trying to identify the model. I presume that the only way to identify the model (from using the magazine only) is if we can also recognize her as the cover model (in which case we can then review the cover credits elsewhere in the magazine). Can anyone think of an instance this would not be true? (even simple "No" answers will be instructive and helpful) I think I likely finally identified the model in the photo I've been looking for for about 21 months or so.
  11. ...this is a derivative of a Model ID as there is nowhere else to put this... ...but trying as had surprising success with sourcing the relatively-unknown photo below... ...now, something 100 times harder than that...can anyone here remember a photo with the following description...and where I can find it? Following is one variation of the description (in blue) that I've given out to librarians in the US and UK (England, Wales and Scotland) in 2019 and to Italy, Singapore, South Africa, Australia and Hong Kong over the past month. Also posted to the Fashion Spot in September 2018 when I first began looking for this. The model (Valeria Mazza is my best guess) has roughly shoulder-length dirty to light blond hair. But, the most distinctive part - she is wearing maybe 15 or 20 white and silver bangles on each arm and they're all spread out. There was some kind of vacation/bohemian theme in this editorial. I think the first page of the six or seven page editorial was my photo and in the last the model was maybe kneeling on a sand dune in a white billowing dress with a big cross dangling way down. I remember the particular issue itself was on the thin side and believe my photo was in the first editorial somewhere between pages 115-135. I feel as though the cover background was white or possibly blue. The search originally went from 1988-2001 but a near-miss in early 2020 brought back a memory that has led me to now believe that the photo was almost certainly in the January-July 1999 period and is in an English-language version of either Harper's Bazaar, Elle, Vogue or Marie Claire. So, most likely either the US, UK or Australia. I feel as though the US and UK have been ruled out (never can be 100% sure unfortunately) but Australia really hasn't been looked at yet (I just wrote to the National Library of Australia yesterday so we'll see what happens with that). But, could it be in a dual-language publication such as those in Hong Kong, South Korea or Taiwan? It seems doubtful because it seems like the English portion of those magazines seem to be very limited...does anyone have a feel for magazines out of those countries? If there was a small narrative included with a fashion editorial, would it ever be in English or would just the title be in English and the narrative be in Chinese or Korean? I'm getting the feeling it is more the latter. Because I remember being able to read the narrative. My problem is I'm running out of options on where the photo might be so I can't rule anything out. Over 1700 issues have been looked at so far (from Sep 2018 to Feb 2020 and picked up the search again in Jun 2021), 9 magazines in the US, 4 in the UK...and now looking elsewhere...but at least only in 1999 now. This is the longest of shots but hoping that this might ring a bell with someone.
  12. @ALPAT how could you possibly know that? amazing...do you happen to know the photographer and/or location also? I was actually thinking of joining Facebook just to try and message Valeria herself (who knows?) to find out where this came from. this was a lift to my spirits as I went to bed last night thinking that I had found a photo that I (and a number of librarians around the world - even as I write this) have spent 19 months looking for (Sep 2018 - Feb 2020 and started looking again at the beginning of Jun 2021). Coincidentally, I believe the model in the photo I'm looking for (which I feel strongly is in the Jan-Jul 1999 period) is Valeria. As a matter of fact, that's how I came across the photo you just identified - I was looking through Valeria's photos on FMD searching for my photo and came across that instead. if you know a lot about Valeria let me know and I'll run it by you...I thought I had posted it here on Bellazon but apparently not as I felt I was on the verge of finding it. I'll probably have to post it if there is an appropriate thread for it...I posted in on the Fashion Spot when I started searching but no one has any direct knowledge of it...although my first guess was Claudia Schiffer and I asked for look-alikes and Valeria was among the suggestions and I think the photo that I remember is more like her than Claudia...
  13. Apologies as I know this isn't really the right place for it, but putting it here this one time just in case someone recognizes this photo or has any advice on how I might find the details behind it. I already know it's Valeria Mazza but I'm looking for the month/year, photographer and magazine (or where it was taken). I did a Google image search for this already but none of the results were fashion-related so that didn't help. This seems like an impossible task...I also put this in the General Model ID and Valeria Mazza threads.
  14. I don't doubt it. I have a collection of photos in which I had identified all of the models except for one from 1984. I put it out there and two posters ID'd her in a few hours. I just searched for her name here on Bellazon and there wasn't a single prior match.
