    Miriam Edez Adelaida Leventon was born on May 22, 1879 in Yalta, Crimea (which is now Ukraine). She was a Russian/American stage and film actress. By 1903 she was a big star in Moscow and in St. Petersburg. In 1905 she moved to New York City and opened up a Russian language theater in the Lower East Side. Alla made her Broadway debut in 1906 and became a popular stage actress. "War Brides" was her first movie in 1915. Later on in her life she developed breast cancer and survived. She made her debut in 1920 and retired from films in 1929. She then traveled to Europe and came back to NYC where she filed bankruptcy. She then went back to the stage. She made a few appearances on television and coached Carol Channing on how to vamp for her musical "Vamp". Nita died of a heart attack on Feb. 17, 1961 in her native NYC.

She made her final screen appearance in 1925 opposite Lionel Barrymore in the movie "Fifty Fifty". After that she spent over 3 years starring on the vaudeville circuit.
