June 10Jun 10 I’ve always felt most like myself in academia. Here, I’m valued for what I contribute, not what I look like. My soul feels seen in a way it rarely does in fashion and social media spaces. After so many years as a model, that means everything & MORE. 🥹 My UCLA colleagues don’t care if I have a pimple. Heck they probably won't even notice!!! (For reference- showing up as the model on a photo shoot with pimples could mean all hell breaking loose!) The fashion & social media worlds have a way of layering jumbled messaging onto self doubt and comparison. Academia is the opposite. It prizes clarity. It’s guided by logic and by a real desire to fix problems and improve the lives of the people who need it most. It sure is fulfilling!! 🥰 I’m grateful for modeling and I always will be. But boy does it feel good to be here. Love my cohort and grateful for the learning and growing we've done together. Hard to believe year 1 of PhD is officially over!
