Raúl to AS

"We want to maintain the same spirit we had at the end of the League"

Raúl González Blanco is about to begin his 11th season with Real Madrid. The captain is as excited as ever after returning from his holiday, and he has every intention of keeping up the winning attitude that drove Real Madrid to the League title last season. Raúl will be the right hand man of Bernd Schuster, who defined the player as “a symbol of Real Madrid.”

In his last hours of summer vacation, Real Madrid captain Raúl González spoke to Spanish sports daily AS about how he feels about the 2007/08 season. He is looking forward to getting another year in the Real Madrid shirt underway. “I am returning to work just as always. I am as excited as ever. I just hope the team maintains the same spirit we had at the end of the League. If we do, we'll have a chance to win all the titles we have in play,” declared Raúl.

It will be a long season that will be fought on four fronts: the Spanish Super Cup, the League, the Champions League, and the King's Cup. The captain is aspiring to all of them, and that's why he is “returning with high hopes. We want to reclaim the League and win as many titles as possible.” Raúl and company will all be back at Real Madrid City this afternoon, and there will be four new faces – Dudek, Metzelder, Saviola, and Pepe- in the dressing room and a new coach, Bernd Schuster managing the squad, but the captian promised that “we're all going to do our best from day one.”
