So apparently, there is something called Miss BumBum contest in Brazil.

As you might have guessed, that the winner of this contest is picked on the basis of which woman has the nicest most attractive buttocks. They even have 3d printed women cut outs now.

Now knowing Brazilian culture, I can understand this (In fact it's been going on since 2011 and is kind of a big deal in Brazil).

However, on an international level, is this contest a bit of a downer for women?

In my opinion is just another competition. There are lots of competitions in wich some aspect of the human nature is taken in count most, and that doesn't mean it is dregading to anyone. We have female athletics competitions in the olimpic games where the only thing that matters is speed, or strengh or agility, there are competitions of beauty (for both male and female), culture (for both male and female), cooking (for both male and female), we have all sorts of sport competitions, and crazy competitions like purchasing a cheese down a hill. If you say a butt competition is degrading to women because they are treated like sex objects then the female athletics would be dregading to women because they are treated like velocipede objects, for example.
