Dunga says Ronaldo should leave Real Madrid

SAO PAULO, Brazil: Brazil coach Dunga wants Ronaldo to leave Real Madrid.

"It's gotten to a moment where he needs a new perspective, a new challenge," Dunga told Globo TV on Wednesday. "Brazilian players need to be happy where they are, and what we see now is that he isn't happy, and he isn't because he is not playing."

Ronaldo, who hasn't been picked to play for Real Madrid since Jan. 7, is reportedly nearing a deal to move to Italy's AC Milan. The 30-year-old striker said Monday his difficulties with coach Fabio Capello seem set to force him out of the Spanish club.

Dunga hasn't summoned Ronaldo to the national team since taking command of the squad after the World Cup. Brazil was eliminated by eventual runner-up France in the quarterfinals in Germany, and Ronaldo played poorly during most of the competition.

Carlos Alberto Parreira, Brazil's coach in the World Cup, said Ronaldo is capable of returning to form.

"If he wants to become the old Ronaldo again, he can," Parreira said. "But he needs to change his behavior, he needs to focus on soccer at all times."

Ronaldo, who helped Brazil win the World Cup in 1994 and 2002, is under contract with Real Madrid until June 2008. He has seven days remaining in the January transfer window to switch clubs this season.

Real And Milan Reach Ronaldo Agreement-Report

Reports from Italy are suggesting Brazilian super-star Ronaldo is expected to complete his Milan medical today and be officially presented as a Rossonero player tomorrow.

Popular newspaper ‘La Repubblica’ this morning reported that Real Madrid have agreed to let Ronaldo go to Milan in exchange for 7,5 million Euros.

Subsequently it has emerged that Milan sent a written offer to Real this morning confirming their bid for the striker.

And Ernesto Bronzetti - a FIFA agent who acts as an intermediary between Real and the Italian clubs - clarified the situation this morning by confirming:

"The clubs agreed a fee of around 6 million Euros. But one cannot yet say that Ronaldo is Milan's.

"First he has to arrive in Milan, undergo [and pass] his medical, then agree to terms with Milan on the contract.

"That in theory has been already done. Let's not rush things now."

Ronaldo is due to be at the San Siro stadium tonight when Milan face Roma in the first leg of the Coppa Italia semi-final, with the tansfer expected to be done and dusted then, and officially announced tomorrow at a formal press conference.

This latest chapter in the Ronaldo story means El Fenomeno will not only have played for the two great Spanish rivals, Barcelona and Real Madrid, but also both the Milanese giants, Internazionale and AC Milan.

Ronaldo poised to leave Real for Milan - report

MADRID, Jan 25 (Reuters) - Ronaldo is poised to travel to Italy to undergo a medical with AC Milan after the Serie A club made a six million-euro ($7.79 million) offer for the Brazilian striker, Spanish media reported on Thursday.

Daily El Mundo said on its Web page (www.elmundo.es) that Ronaldo would sign an 18-month contract with Milan who would offer him the chance to end his career at the club if he lives up to expectations.

Marca's Web page (www.marca.com) said Italian intermediary Ernesto Bronzetti, who has been involved in the negotiations, had said the two clubs had reached an agreement.

The three-times World Player of the Year had been tipped to leave Real Madrid ever since coach Fabio Capello made it clear the 30-year-old did not feature in his plans.

Ronaldo has been a long-time target for AC Milan who made a reported bid of between 15 and 18 million euros for the striker in the close season.

A transfer to Milan would represent a return to familiar territory for Ronaldo, who played for Inter Milan between 1997 and 2002.

Ronaldo to sue Guangxi Golden Throat Group

Brazilian soccer star Ronaldo is suing a Chinese drug maker for a TV commercial advertisement produced without his nod.

In the ad about a lozenge produced by Guangxi Golden Throat Group, Ronaldo giggles while showing the product to the audience. It was showed on TV, including CCTV, from September 2003, after his visit to China with Real Madrid.

The newspaper, Youth Weekend reports, the ad sparked criticism from the audience, who doubted if it was Ronaldo himself. Thanks to the ad, the famous striker was put on the list of top 10 most unpopular spokespeople in a commercial ad.

Ronaldo has complained his image was illegally used for the ad, which was produced without a contract. Two Chinese lawyers have been employed to collect evidence and the proceeding will start next month, possibly at a news conference in Beijing.

However, the Chinese drug maker insisted that there was no breaking of the law in the production of the ad.

The true story of the ad: Once Upon a Meal

The image of Ronaldo in the ad could be traced back to a meal, according to Wang Lei, a newspaper reporter and an acquaintance of the star's representative.

The star was invited to dinner by the drug maker during his stay in Beijing in 2003 with Real Madrid players. The image came from photos shot during the meal, for which the the drug maker side paid the striker 300 thousand US dollars.

Nothing has been said, however, about the real purpose of shooting the photos.

Harm has been done: The Loss of Valuable Endorsement Contracts

Ronaldo decided to go to court when another Chinese drug maker wanted a deal with him with a precondition: he must terminate the contract with Guangxi Golden Throat Group.

He did not realize until then that he missed as many as seven chances to sign contracts with Chinese enterprises because of the "Golden Throat" ad. Each contract could have fetched him 3.2 million euros a year.

Misuse of a famous image: Four Facts Make a Bad, Bad Ad

Four facts about the ad make it impossible for it to be one produced under contract by Ronaldo, said his representative to news reporter Wang Lei.

1. There is no sign of "Golden Throat" on the official website of the soccer star, which should be a term of the contract if it had ever existed.

2. The design of the ad was too awful for an international football star.

3. Except for the meal, Ronaldo hasn't shown up for any commercial activities of the enterprise, which is illogical under a contract.

4. The image of the famous star in the ad was clearly without makeup. Usually he would spend at least one hour dressing up before shooting an ad.

The other side of the story: No Response from "Golden Throat"

News reporters failed to contact people responsible on the "Golden Throat" side, while Ronaldo's image is still on the front page of the drug maker's website.

Ronaldo watches Roma fightback

The imminent arrival of Ronaldo sparked improved performances from Ricardo Oliveira and Filippo Inzaghi, only for AS Roma to cancel out early goals from the AC Milan forwards and force a 2-2 first-leg draw in this Coppa Italia semi-final.

Medical

The Real Madrid CF forward travelled to Milan on Thursday afternoon to undergo a medical and reach a deal which should see him return to the city for a second time, having scored 49 Serie A goals in 68 games during an injury-marred five-season spell at FC Internazionale Milano. "If everything goes according to plan, Ronaldo will be a Milan player on Monday," said Rossoneri vice-president Adriano Galliani.

Super start

Ronaldo, 30, would have been impressed by his competition for a starting spot in Carlo Ancelotti's preferred XI as Milan made a super start to their home leg. Oliveira took just four minutes to open the scoring, latching on to a long pass from Massimo Ambrosini before controlling the ball and picking his spot. Inzaghi doubled the lead in the 23rd minute from a Marek Jankulovski cross before Roma found finally their feet.

Second legs

The Giallorossi halved the deficit six minutes later, Simone Perrotta touching in Christian Panucci's centre from the right, and drew level in the 39th as David Pizarro embarrassed Dida with a shot from the edge of the area. Inter are on course to reach the showpiece from the other semi-final, having beaten UC Sampdoria 3-0 in Genoa on Wednesday. Both ties conclude next week, with the final scheduled for 18 April and 9 May.
