Bravo for Tommy Hilfiger, Radical

Network to air 'Ironic Iconic America' special

By SAM THIELMAN

Tommy Hilfiger and Radical Media have inked a deal with Bravo to broadcast a one-off special based on Hilfiger and George Lois' book "Iconic America."

The special, called "Tommy Hilfiger Presents Ironic Iconic America," is tentatively skedded to air in primetime during the first week in October. Radical will be producing the show.

Rich Kronengold, Radical's chief marketing officer, said the book itself was a great branding opportunity, and that a TV program, even if it fails, will generate a lot more eyeballs than an exhibit -- one of the other options Radical explored when trying to expand the mini-property.

Hilfiger said that, though the show is about America, he wants it to appeal to young people globally, so the co-host of the show will be Israeli model Bar Refaeli, who will share duties with the mono-monickered Rives of "Def Poetry Jam."

Americana Dream

25 June 2008, 10:20AM

TOMMY HILFIGER is taking his musings on American culture to the small screen - with a little supermodel support.

The iconic designer - whose fashion label unveiled record profits on Monday - is adapting the photographic book he last year released with George Lois, Iconic America: A Roller-Coaster Ride Through Eye-Popping Panorama of American Pop Culture, for a one-hour television special to air on Bravo this autumn, WWD reports.

While the book chronicled people and places with cultural significance to the US identity (think Ernest Heminway and Route 66), the film version will see Israeli supermodel Bar Rafaeli join poet Rives on a journey around the States, taking in Kansas' Barbie Museum, Boston's Candy Heart Necco factory - and the New Jersey bedroom of a high school girl preparing for her senior prom.
