Today’s results are in!

Group 1

Elle Macpherson (59.3%) defeated Jessica Gomes (40.7%)

Carla Campbell (75.0%) defeated Vicky Howard (25.0%)

Group 2

Kathy Ireland (64.0%) defeated Valeria Mazza (36.0%)

Maggie Smith (75.0%) defeated Barbara Minty (25.0%)

Group 3

Stephanie Seymour (64.5%) defeated Marisa Miller (35.5%)

Amy Wesson (100.0%) defeated Kathy Loghry (0.0%)

My spin:

Alright, this is the final cycle of the Group Stage, so new tickets to the Knockout Stage will be punched every day for the next couple of weeks.

Today, we see results from what is arguably the first 2014 match between true SI legends, as Group 3 came down to a battle between defending champion Marisa Miller and supermodel Stephanie Seymour. Stephanie pulled off the monumental upset and claimed the Group 3 title. That leaves Marisa to sweat it out and hope for a wild card spot to advance into the Knockout Stage!

As a reminder, there are 34 wild card spots, and they’re awarded to the 34 top performing models who do not finish in first place in their group. I have a home-grown formula (of course!) that takes into account the strength of opponents, margins of victory/loss, etc. in an attempt to normalize results across the different groups, because some groups are more difficult than others.  Right now, Marisa tumbled towards the bottom half of the available wild card spots, but she’s still in a position to advance. It’ll be a sweat for her, though!

In another awesome match from Group 1, top-ranked Elle Macpherson took home the Group 1 title with her hard-fought win over fellow Aussie Jessica Gomes. Because of her fine showing in the Group Stage, Jessica’s wild card chances are looking very good at this point, so there’s still hope for her.

Finally, #2 Kathy Ireland captured the expected Group 2 title with her win over Valeria Mazza. Valeria’s loss likely ends her tournament, as she finishes at 2-2 in the Group Stage and currently comes in at #113 overall when ranking the 2014 tournament performance.

Today’s results are in!

Group 4

May Andersen (68.2%) defeated Cheryl Tiegs (31.8%)

Hillary Safire (75.0%) defeated Louise Vyent (25.0%)

Group 5

Yamila Diaz-Rahi (51.9%) defeated Melissa Haro (48.1%)

Valerie van der Graaf (77.8%) defeated Roberta Little (22.2%)

Group 6

Daniela Pestova (87.0%) defeated Karen Alexander (13.0%)

Marloes Horst (87.5%) defeated Quiana Grant (12.5%)

My spin:

Upset alert in Group 4, where May Andersen stayed unbeaten and knocked off SI legend Cheryl Tiegs to win the group title. Cheryl entered the match unbeaten but hadn’t performed ultra-convincingly against extremely weak competition. This loss, and more importantly her 31.8% of the vote, plummets Cheryl out of the wild card zone, so things are not looking good for her advancing past the Group Stage.

In Group 5, Melissa Haro nearly pulled off another big upset against #5 Yamila Diaz-Rahi, but in the end Yamila squeaked by and claimed the group title. Melissa has had a great tournament so far and looks poised to claim a wild card spot, though, as she’s currently #47 in the overall tournament standings.

Finally, in Group 6, Daniela Pestova had an easy time with Karen Alexander and remained unbeaten to cruise to first place in the group. No surprise there! Rookie Marloes Horst also looks to be moving on as a wild card after another strong showing.

Today’s results are in!

Group 7

Irina Shayk (67.6%) defeated Lucia Dvorska (32.4%)

Ambr Noelle Ehresmann (70.6%) defeated Micheline Lee (29.4%)

Group 8

Brooklyn Decker (86.7%) defeated Fernanda Tavares (13.3%)

Shana Zadrick (100.0%) defeated Anna Getaneh (0.0%)

Group 9

Veronica Varekova (87.5%) defeated Audrey Quock (12.5%)

Suzy Smith (66.7%) defeated Jocelyn Javits (33.3%)

My spin:

In Group 7, Irina Shayk bounced back from her loss to Jeisa Chiminazzo and beat Lucia Dvorska by enough to win the group. Amazingly, Jeisa had a small window of opportunity for first place, if Irina had won and gotten between about 56-63% of the vote then Jeisa actually would have won the tiebreaker. But, Irina came through and took home the title to advance.

In Group 8, Brooklyn Decker continued to smash the competition and finished unbeaten in the Group Stage, as did Veronica Varekova in Group 9.

Today’s results are in!

Group 10

Anne Vyalitsyna (64.7%) defeated Lujan Fernandez (35.3%)

Veronica Blume (94.7%) defeated Carla Maria (5.3%)

Group 11

Christie Brinkley and Bridget Hall DREW (50.0%-50.0%)

Melania Knauss (55.0%) defeated Jessica Hart (45.0%)

Group 12

Kate Upton (82.6%) defeated Melissa Keller (17.4%)

Jarah Mariano (95.0%) defeated Carmen Luisa Vela (5.0%)

My spin:

In Group 11, Bridget Hall and Christie Brinkley played to the 7th draw of the tournament. While it’s not quite the result Christie would have hoped for, it is still good enough to get her first place in the group. Yesica Toscanini and Bridget now sweat it out for a wild card spot, but Yesica’s chances look a lot better than Bridget’s do.

In Group 10, Anne V laid claim to the group title with a victory over Lujan Fernandez. The win for Anne means that Ehrinn Cummings will also need help to advance via a wild card spot. For now, Ehrinn’s performances would be good enough to advance, but only barely, as she sits in 77th overall - two above the current cut line.

Finally, Group 12 went as predicted: Kate the Great had an easy victory over Melissa Keller to claim the group title.

Today’s results are in!

Group 13

Paulina Porizkova (68.4%) defeated Yasmeen Ghauri (31.6%)

Michaela Bercu (66.7%) defeated Annette Molen (33.3%)

Group 14

Bar Refaeli (80.0%) defeated Izabel Goulart (20.0%)

Ana Paula Araujo (85.7%) defeated Tanga Moreau (14.3%)

Group 15

Heidi Klum (81.0%) defeated Kylie Bax (19.0%)

Cris Urena (93.8%) defeated Bernadette Swann (6.2%)

My spin:

Paulina Porizkova wrapped up Group 13 with a convincing victory over Yasmeen Ghuari, who tumbled down the wild card rankings with the loss. Yasmeen now finds herself a handful of spots below the cut line, so she’ll need some help from others to advance in the tournament.

In Group 14, there was a great showdown between unbeatens Bar Refaeli and Izabel Goulart. I thought it would be a pretty close match, but Bar pummeled Izabel to claim first place and send Izabel into a freefall in the wild card rankings. Izabel’s still on the good side of the cut line, but not by much!

Finally, Group 15 was won by Heidi Klum, who easily dispatched of Kylie Bax. Lauren Mellor, who had previously completed her Group Stage matches, takes second place in the group and will certainly be a wild card selection to advance in the tournament.

Today’s results are in!

Group 16

Petra Nemcova (69.6%) defeated Molly Sims (30.4%)

Barbro Ehn (78.6%) defeated Kay Hughes (21.4%)

Group 17

Rebecca Romijn (90.9%) defeated Jenny Brunt (9.1%)

Paula Warner (52.9%) defeated Lorraine Pascale (47.1%)

Group 18

Vendela Kirsebom (71.4%) defeated Kristy Hinze (28.6%)

Brandi Quinones (85.7%) defeated Gail O’Neill (14.3%)

My spin:

Petra Nemcova wrapped up first place in Group 16 with her easy win over Molly Sims, and Molly is the one with the really bad news: she is still on the wrong side of the wild card cut line. Molly was unbeaten coming into this match, but her margins of victory were quite low, so she could not afford a big loss like she had. So, Molly needs help to advance, but the group’s third place finisher, Dominique Piek, is on the good side of the cut line because of a better overall performance in all matches. That’s why every vote counts!

In Group 17, Rebecca Romijn took first place with another dominating performance against Jenny Brunt. Aurelie Claudel, who had already completed all of her matches, finishes in second place in the group and is a shoo-in for a wild card spot. So, those two will move on, but Rebecca will get that important First Round bye.

Finally, one of my favorite models, Vendela Kirsebom, won Group 18 with a surprisingly easy victory over previously unbeaten Kristy Hinze. Kristy’s loss caused her to take a tumble in the wild card rankings, but she’s likely still safe to advance.

Today’s results are in!

Group 19

Ashley Richardson (68.4%) defeated Noemie Lenoir (31.6%)

Malia Jones (100.0%) defeated Paulette Kieon (0.0%)

Group 20

Natasha Barnard (75.0%) defeated Rachel Hunter (25.0%)

Carol Latimer (70.6%) defeated Turia Mau (29.4%)

Group 21

Nina Agdal (96.4%) defeated Sabrina Barnett (3.6%)

Kate James and Reka Ebergenyi DREW (50.0%-50.0%)

My spin:

In Group 19, Ashley Richardson took down the group title and advanced to the Knockout Stage with her win over Noemie Lenoir. In the other match, Malia Jones became the 20th model to record a clean sheet in this year’s tournament, and she sits on the good side of the wild card cut line.

Natasha Barnard and Rachel Hunter entered their match unbeaten, but only Natasha emerged from the battle unblemished, as she easily beat Rachel to claim the group title. Rachel plummeted in the wild card rankings, but she is still on the good side of the cut line.

Finally, Group 21 had already been settled entering these matches, but Nina Agdal played out the string with yet another dominant performance. In the other match, we had yet another draw in the group, as Kate James and Reka Ebergenyi couldn’t be separated. Amazingly, out of 8 draws in the tournament, 3 of them have been in this group!

Today’s results are in!

Group 22

Elsa Benitez (81.0%) defeated Michelle Alves (19.0%)

Kenza Fourati (88.2%) defeated Sarah Nursey (11.8%)

Group 23

Stacey Williams (76.2%) defeated Dayle Haddon (23.8%)

Monika Schnarre (84.2%) defeated Hina Tama (15.8%)

Group 24

Tori Praver (76.9%) defeated Tyra Banks (23.1%)

Hannah Ferguson (78.3%) defeated Andrea Orme (21.7%)

My spin:

The Group of Death, Group 24, finished up today, and what a finish it was. First place was already wrapped up by Emily Ratajkowski, which left Hannah Ferguson and Tori Praver fighting for wild card spots. Both needed great showings to climb back above the cut line, and both got great showings. However, only Hannah’s was good enough to get her on the good side of the cut line - just barely! For the moment, Hannah is in the final wild card spot of the tournament, and Tori is just 3 spots behind her. But, those 3 spots make all the difference. It’s far from over, though, so both Hannah and Tori still have a chance and neither one can feel secure about her chances until it is all over. Worth mentioning: Both Tori and Hannah finished higher than Emily in the wild card rankings, which makes sense considering that both had higher overall vote totals. But, Emily narrowly won the head-to-head matches, so she claimed first place with her 4-0 record.

In Group 22, Elsa Benitez easily wrapped up first place, and second place finisher Aline Nakashima looks to be in good shape to claim a wild card spot.

Finally, in Group 23, Stacey Williams also easily wrapped up first place, and underdog story Monika Schnarre continued to stay on the good side of the cut line after her easy victory.

Another thing worth mentioning is that SI icon Cheryl Tiegs is now also on the wrong side of the cut line after today’s matches, as she sits one spot ahead of Tori Praver. So, like Tori, Cheryl also needs some of the models above her to stumble in order to get back on the good side of the line.

Today’s results are in!

Group 25

Chrissy Teigen (52.0%) defeated Karen Mulder (48.0%)

Julie Henderson (91.3%) defeated Irina Pantaeva (8.7%)

Group 26

Judit Masco (57.1%) defeated Renee Simonsen (42.9%)

Jessica Van Der Steen (81.8%) defeated Annie Morton (18.2%)

Group 27

Carolyn Murphy (66.7%) defeated Carol Alt (33.3%)

Ariel Meredith (87.5%) defeated Akure Wall (12.5%)

My spin:

Julie Henderson took first place in Group 25 by a tiebreaker over Chrissy Teigen, and Chrissy’s narrow victory over Karen Mulder did not help her chances any. She still finds herself on the wrong side of the wild card cut line by about 10 spots, so it looks like Chrissy’s 2014 tournament is over.

In Group 26, personal favorite Judit Masco wrapped up the group title with her win over Renee Simonsen. Both Michelle Vawer and Jessica Van Der Steen are close to wild card spots from this group, but both are on the wrong side of the cut line, as well. Things look very bleak for Jessica, but it’s possible that Michelle may still get enough help from those in front of her tumbling to sneak her into the Knockout Stage.

Finally, in Group 27, Carolyn Murphy had a very impressive win over Carol Alt to take the group title. Carol had a big drop in her ranking because of the loss, but she’s still quite comfortable in her spot on the good side of the cut line.
