Biography

 

American actress Anna Gunn was born on August 11, 1968 in Santa Fe, New Mexico. She graduated from Northwestern University, studying in the school’s renowned theater department. She quickly established her name as a stage actress in Chicago, beginning with a role in the critically-acclaimed production of The Beggar’s Opera, which she earned right after graduation. She continued performing on stage even as she moved to Los Angeles. Her other known performances include those for Hysteria, Measure for Measure, the world premiere of Uncommon Ground, and later, in the Broadway production of The Rehearsal.

Gunn began her television career in 1992, playing a guest role in the science fiction series Quantum Leap. This was quickly followed by a regular role in the short-lived comedy Down the Shore, which premiered the same year. Her first widely-recognized role was in two episodes of NYPD Blue, where she played a junkie longing to swim with the dolphins. She then moved on to a recurring role in The Practice, where she played the role of assistant district attorney Jean Ward. In 2005, she got her first regular television role, appearing in the acclaimed drama Deadwood as Martha Bullock, the wife and former sister-in-law of Seth Bullock (Timothy Olyphant). Three years later, she earned her second regular television role, in the drama Breaking Bad, where she currently plays Skyler White, the wife of Walter (Bryan Cranston).

Gunn has also appeared in several movies, making her debut opposite Angelina Jolie in the thriller drama Without Evidence. She has since starred in other films, such as Santa Fe, Enemy of the State, Nobody’s Baby, Treading Water and Lost Souls.
