Yes sadly the fashion industry is putting in new faces and replacing supermodels like Marios since they are considered "old" now. But its not too bad I guess, yes his work has reduced considerably but he walked for 4 designers in Milan Fashion Week and of course every once in a while there is an editorial.

I hate that age is discriminated against so much. If you're a good model --- and a good looking one at that --- then you should continue to get work. It sucks that "new" even if it's not better, will win over the old just because they're "old."

I know, their system is totally ridiculous. Its even worse for female models cause now apparently most of the new faces are around 14 or 15 years of age. They replace them just as fast as they churn them out. Apparently being 20 is even too "old" for them lol its so crazy.

I think Marios is one of the few who can appear whatever age the photographer wants to portray. In some pics he looks younger, in suits, etc. he can look older, more sophisticated. The problem sometimes is pairing someone 'older' with, as you point out, a female model who is in high school. It looks wrong, and a little creepy. Then again, a model of Marios' age is going to have decent work habits, know the business, and know his body, so there's less chance of an acne breakout or whatvere which could ruin a shoot.

I doubt seriously that Marios is being phased out of the industry; the runway has always been used to mainly, though not entirely, to introduce new models. He has been putting in a lot of work for a few years now. He may simply be taking a break form it all. Successful and top male models do that all the time. It can be exhausting travelling all over the world for jobs, and they do have lives away from the camera. Some may go to school, work in the real world, try acting, etc. Given that he's proven to be such a good model, he doesn't have to search for jobs as much, clients are likely to come looking for him. Bottom line: the fact that you can't find much very recent work is probably his choice. One other thing; models do not catwalk for the money, its one of the least lucrative parts of the modeling industry with the exception of an exalted few.
