“I’m pretty meticulous about how I look.”

His breakthrough last year with Eurovision hit “Manboy” ended up in an impressive third place. This year he took the best price of all – a direct ticket to the Eurovision Song Contest in Düsseldorf. Julia Stars met the pop star Eric Saade to talk about celebrity-life, the future and how long he was actually standing in front of the mirror every day.

When Julia Stars met Eric, it has been two days since the final of Melodifestival where he didn’t only broke the glass on stage, but also broke the whole competition! It is not surprising that there is a tired pop star who sits on the sofa with glass of orange juice in his hand. He has done interviews without rest and don’t even had time to sleep in his own bed! He’s really glad that he won the contest even if he’s tired!

We are curious, tell us how it felt to win Melodifestivalen!

– It was totally sick, I just sat there and realized that all had voted for my song. It means so much to me! I haven’t yet found time to believe I actually won. I even hadn’t time to be home, but once I sit on the couch at home, I will get it!

What do Molly think of your victory?

- Wow, I really don’t know but I hope she is happy! Everything has gone so fast …

What happens now?

- Now I’m going to finish my new album that I started working last fall. The idea has always been that I will have a more international career next fall, so this album is my second album in Sweden and will be my debut album for the rest of the world. I really want to write an album that has international style and that makes me 100% proud. This summer, I will have a tour in Sweden and it will be fun! But there is a lot of work. It takes about a month of training for the tour.

How does it feel to be famous?

- I am very uninterested in fame. There are so many people who want you to be famous just for being famous and for me it’s music what really matters, I get so many requests to do “Fångarna på Fortet” and other game programs but I always say no to such things because they have nothing to do with music.

Tell us a little about how you became an artist.

- When I was 13, I sang in a talent show at Helsingborg Festival. It was my mother who told that I wanted to sing even if I didn’t really knew anything. She told me that I was going to sing the day before the talent show and then I decided I would sing the Bryan Adams song “When You’re Gone”, who sang it with Mel C. Lasse Lingman who is the father of my actual manager, sat in the public. He came over and said he thought that I had something special. A year later, he called me and wanted me in other talent competitions. During four years I worked on many other projects among other things like Disney Channel, I had any experience at all.

What is the best thing about being a pop star?

- That people like what you do and listen to your music. Perform live, making my own show and hear the audience’s singing is the best feeling I know. Melodifestivalen is also fun but to make your own concert beats everything!

What would you do if you didn’t were a pop star then?

- I don’t really know, probably I would work on something in the entertainment area. I love directing things and I always write my own storyboards. I enjoyed working on the Disney Channel, so being a host is something I could imagine.

What’s your schedule on a typical day?

– Right now it’s a hell diagram, said Eric, smiling.This morning I got up at six o’clock in the morning to be on a tv morning show. Then I went to radio station Rix FM and did an interview. Then I came here for a record company and did a chat and since then I have met with journalists of different newspapers. The last thing I’ll do today is a radio interview on P4 and then I go home.

What are you doing when you’re free?

- I usually just hang out with friends and family as much as I can. If I have a week off, I often go home to Helsingborg. I play a lot of video games, my favorite is Fifa, and also I play football. It’s my way to relax and disconnect from the music.

Do you like to cook?

- It’s fun, but usually I’m home around eight in the evening and then you have no real desire to go to your kitchen and think of what to cook, so usually I will have dinner out. My favorite dishes are the seafood soup and seafood stew, but I can’t cook for yourself.

Do you have any personal heroes?

- Robbie Williams really has “it”. He may not have the best voice and the world’s best dancer, but he can just stand on stage and watch the crowd and get them to cheer. Justin Timberlake, I love that he is the world’s best “performer”. Join them together and you hopefully will have me.

Do you have any other dreams left to be achieved?

– I have many dreams in music that I want to reach. I want to look into the future and touring in other countries. Then I also want to meet Zlatan, of course! He is my idol and the biggest personality.

You may not have time now, but do you have any favorite TV show?

– Right now I really don’t have time, but when I went to school I really liked “24″. Now when I sit in front of the TV it is usually something you can just jump in to like football or “CSI.” Then I can just relax and don’t think of anything else.

You seem to have a great interest in fashion, how do you see your own style?

- I like to dress me with lots of character and I like designers who stand out. I will begin designing my own clothes soon which is exciting. I am sponsored by the brand “Selected” that makes such nice clothes and it’s for them that I will start designing for.

Do you have a style icon that inspires you?

- No, I don’t think so. I don’t like to imitate someone else’s style of clothing but I would prefer to dress for myself only.

Do you spend much time in front of the mirror?

- Not so much, but I’m pretty careful about how I look. If I’m going down to the store, I often meet someone who wants to take a picture or want an autograph, and I will allways say yes, I usually take 10 minutes in front of the mirror. I’d rather spend a little extra time in front of the mirror so I never have to say no!

How did you and Molly met?

- We did a show and sang together in the mountains. We decided that we should talk again and when we got home and after meeting each other a few weeks later, we were together!

Do you both live together?

- Not right now, said Eric mysteriously. (Remember this is from early months of 2011)

Is that something you are thinking of doing?

- Absolutely!

After the interview, Eric set up to take pictures, he used a window’s reflection to fix his hair, he’s ready and looking gorgeous! When I got there I see a large suitcase on the floor full of clothes. Eric says that it was from the final, and that he hadn’t found time to unpack. I’m trying to peek and see if I can find something exciting, but unfortunately, only Eric Saade’s dirty laundry.

- Bye, says Eric when I walk out the door.

- Bye, I reply back. Hope you get some rest tonight. You actually get some rest, too. Even if you’re Sweden’s biggest pop star.

1st: Matrix Trilogy: – I love these films because you had never seen anything like it when they came out.

2nd: Star Wars films: – They were also newly created and I have seen them many times.

3rd: Shutter Island: (first, Eric can’t find the name of the movie.) – You know that “The Island”, he tries.

Eventually, they together came up that “Shutter Island” is the movie. – It’s crazy!

4th: Beverly Hills Cop: – It’s funny and Eddie Murphy is so damn good!

5th: The Guardian: – Very exciting movie with Ashton Kutcher and Kevin Coster.
