September 6, 20168 yr EVENING STANDARD - 21 JULY 2011 Pony club on steroids Glorious Goodwood, the historic five-day race meeting on the Earl of March's estate in Sussex Downs, is sprucing itself up this year by kicking off next Wednesday with its first Celebrity Ladies' Race in aid of Great Ormond Street Children's Hospital. It's not for the faint-hearted, which makes the group of women riders (aged from 21 to 50) who agreed to take part - including mother-of-three Sara Cox, the Radio 1 DJ, Burberry model Edie Campbell, pretty and posh Tatler editor Kate Reardon, businesswoman Dido Harding, actress Nettie Lynton and racing commentator Emma Spencer - all the more curious and impressive, particularly as they'll be doing it in front of 100,000 spectators. Goodwood has mixed things up by throwing three real riders into the mix: trainer Luca Cumani's daughter Francesca, polo player Clare Milford Haven and dressage champion Laura Bectolsheimer. Model du jour Edie Campbell, at 21, appears the most laid-back of all but has been obsessively YouTubing her horse to study his form. She's been riding regularly since she was small and still rides a couple of times a week on her own horse. Despite this, she says: "I'm f***ing terrified. Luca Cumani's daughter, she's the problem."
September 6, 20168 yr THE TELEGRAPH - 26 JULY 2011 From catwalk to racetrack, the supermodel hoping to ride to victory Model Edie Campbell is to swap her stilettos for stirrups and jodhpurs in a bid to become a champion jockey.
September 6, 20168 yr MAGNOLIA CUP CHARITY RACE AT GLORIOUS GOODWOOD - 28 JULY 2011 “There’s been a lot of faux competition going on between all the girls, like when you’re at school and everyone tries to convince the others they’ve done no revision,” said Edie Campbell, who galloped to victory in the charity Ladies’ Race at the Goodwood estate in Sussex, England last weekend. “But I think people were pretty well prepared.” from wwd.com - 4 August 2011
September 6, 20168 yr BRITISH VOGUE - 29 JULY 2011 Big Win Updated Friday July 22, 9.45am: Model Edie Campbell is quitting the day job next week to compete in Glorious Goodwood's first ever Celebrity Ladies Race, in order to raise money for Great Ormond Street Hospital. The Burberry star will compete against Sara Cox and Tatler editor Kate Reardon. "I've been horse riding since I was five, so fifteen years now," Campbell told us. "I have a horse in Warwickshire and compete every couple of weeks and try to ride about three times a week. My mum took me to the local riding school near her little cottage when I was tiny and I loved it. I like the no bullshit aspect of it and the lack of ego. You have to get outside of your own head to ride well and be very disciplined and calm. I was always told by my very first riding teacher mrs ward 'keep your heels down and you won't fall orf!" "I think it's an amazing opportunity to raise money for great Ormond Street Hospital, and I don't think I will ever get the chance to ride a horse of this calibre anywhere like Goodwood again!" Campbell said. Is Campbell feeling competitive over the race? "Hell yeah!" she laughed. "Eyes on the prize!" Updated Friday July 29, 11.19am: Edie Campbell told us she had her "eyes on the prize" ahead of the charity horserace, and she wasn't lying - the Burberry model came first place in the event which saw her compete against Kate Reardon and Sara Cox. "It's an amazing feeling, and so surreal," she told us. "I really don't know how to feel - it was so much fun - the best fun I've ever had. I ride in events, but just as a hobby, and have never ridden in a race, other than racing against my friends when we were children on ponies. I didn't think of winning until I had crossed the line. I went clear but started getting really tired, then thought "come on, push on". He's an amazing horse, he's wicked and so kind. I don't think he'll make an eventer - he hasn't got a very good trot."
