Real Madrid's Marcelo refuses to discuss performance of referee after Barcelona draw

Real Madrid full-back Marcelo insists he will not be drawn into a war of words regarding the controversial performance of the referee in Saturday's 1-1 draw with Barcelona at the Bernabeu.

The Brazilian was awarded a penalty when Dani Alves was judged to have brought his fellow countryman to the ground illegally.

Alves was not dismissed for the challenge, while Real Madrid defender Raul Albiol had earlier been sent off for obstructing David Villa; but Marcelo reckons the team need to focus on their own efforts rather than the performance of the officials.

"I'm not here to talk about the referee,'' he told the club's official website. ''We have to play with what's out here, no matter if it helps or hurts us."

The ex-Fluminense man turned his attention to another mouth-watering clash against their arch-rivals on Wednesday night, adding: ''The Copa del Rey final will be a complicated game. We all want to win it.''

Despite winning two league titles with the capital club, the full-back has yet to win the Copa del Rey and is looking to add that medal to his collection.
