Carlos Bernard (born October 12, 1962) is an American actor, best known[1] for his role as Tony Almeida in 24.

Carlos Bernard was born and raised in Chicago. Like most Chicagoans, he’s a bit of a sports fanatic, and yes, a major Cubs fan. The arts, however, have always played an important part in his life as Carlos began drawing and painting at an early age. After graduating from New Trier High School, he attended Illinois State University as a fine arts major with the thought of becoming an animator.

Carlos switched course after college and decided to pursue his life long dream of being a professional actor. He started out studying and performing at various theater companies around Chicago, including The Second City, Pegasus Players, and the Victory Gardens Theater Co. After a few years working in Chicago, Carlos made the move to San Francisco to train at the prestigious American Conservatory Theater. While at A.C.T., he performed in such plays as Hamlet, The Diary of Anne Frank, The Cherry Orchard, As You Like It, Good, and Heartbreak House.

His Los Angeles stage credits include Scenes from an Execution at the The Mark Taper Forum, Bobby Gould in Hell and The Memorandum at The Ashbury Actors Group (co-founder), and Blackout at The Egyptian Arena Theater.

He’s also written and directed for the stage and screen, receiving an LA Weekly Theater Award nomination for Best Director for his staging of Vaclav Havel’s The Memorandum. He wrote the play The Malleable, which premiered at the Beverly Hills Playhouse, co-wrote and co-produced the pilot presentation Mission Road (directed by Jon Cassar) and is producing a mobile comic series entitled 101 Ways to Die.

Carlos is probably best known for his portrayal of Tony Almeida on Fox’s Golden Globe and Emmy Award winning series 24. He’s received nominations for two Screen Actors Guild Awards, three Imagen Awards and one Alma Award.
