Andy was born in Havana, Cuba on April , 12 1956 with a dead conjoined twin on his left shoulder that was removed. His family moved to Miami after the Bay of Pigs Invasion when he was 5.

After attending Florida International University, he moved to California and started acting in small roles. His first solid supporting role was in "The Mean Season" in 1985. Although the film was a failure, Andy did get more attention. "The Untouchables" was the film that brought him stardom and then he became a popular actor.

In 1989 he was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor in "The Godfather 3".

Andy has been very active for Cuban refugees and communites that have been devastated by hurricanes.
