Amen....

Anyway I can help bringing to light the oldies but goodies, I will. Starting here with "The Duke"

Let the sermon begin

Sad part, they don't. Biggest problem with that is that westerns are not popular anymore

Now if they would go back and have the Saturday John Wayne marathons, that might change

This sucks.....

I'm surfing around looking for John Wayne pics, sites, and there's not too much to find anymore.

McLintock was a great movie, I still believe he didn't make a bad movie

VERY TRUE. it is fast becoming a lost genre. I think the alst truly good western I saw was Unforgiven with Eastwood.

than you get these pseudo westerns like American Outlaws that try and make it 'hip". come on. jsut stick with the Wayne or Eastwood formula for westerns.

Preach some more, Amen and agree.

No actor could give the look and make the bad guy really think about what he was going to do like Wayne and Eastwood could give.

When they gave the look you knew that you were gonna get knocked around or you hope you could out draw them.

Exactly! it is all about the rpesence.

i mean, i;d crap my pants if Wayne or Eastwood gave me that "you are in trouble" look, as opposed to someone like Emilio Estevez or Colin Farrel in their "westerns".

Especially Wayne. Even though he had that distinct way of talking, he just had a tremendous screen presence about him.

I'd lvoe to try and splice together some of his and Clint's westerns to make one fantasy western of those two squaring off.

Your right, Eastwood had the look also, but Wayne had it all. he didn't have to look at you, you just had to see him coming and knew you were done.

It would be interesting to see Wayne & Eastwood square off, I think advantage goes to Wayne. I think he was better with both his guns and fists.

All this this talk about The Duke, I'll have to now call my step father and get some of his movies and with what I have,

do my own Saturday western marathon.

i got a nice little collection of Wayne movies of my own. I love breaking them out too watch. I do admit, it is msotly his westerns. For some reaons thouse jsut capture my imagination more, not that his war movies are bad, guess im just a cowboy at heart. lol

I love both but do prefer the westerns. As a cowboy, I think he had a wide variety of characters that he played very well and made believable.

He also had some of the greatest movie lines, here's a few.

* "I won't be wronged, I won't be insulted, and I won't be laid a hand on. I don't do these things to other people, and I require the same from them." (The Shootist)

* Speaking to his young cavalry lieutenants: "Don't apologize—it's a sign of weakness." (She Wore a Yellow Ribbon)

* "Fill your hand, you son of a bitch!" (True Grit)

* "That'll be the day!" (The Searchers - Spoken several times; inspired Buddy Holly to write a song with that title.)

* "I haven't lost my temper in 40 years; but, Pilgrim, you caused a lot of trouble this morning; might have got somebody killed; and somebody oughta belt you in the mouth. But I won't. I won't. The hell I won't!" (He belts him in the mouth). (To Leo Gordon in McLintock!)

* "Out here, due process is a bullet!" (To anti-war journalist David Janssen in The Green Berets)

John Wayne quotes

major American motion-picture Actor who embodied the image of the strong, taciturn cowboy or soldier and who in many ways personified the idealized American values of his era. 1907-1979

Courage is being scared to death but saddling up anyway

Life is hard; it's harder if you're stupid.

Tomorrow is the most important thing in life. Comes into us at midnight very clean. It's perfect when it arrives and it puts itself in our hands. It hopes we've learned something from yesterday.

Women have the right to work wherever they want, as long as they have the dinner ready when you get home

Life is tough, but it's tougher when you're stupid.

If you've got them by the balls their hearts and minds will follow.

A man ought to do what he thinks is right”

If everything isn't black and white, I say, "Why the hell not?

Talk low, talk slow and don't say too much

A horse is a horse,it ain´t make a difference what color it is.
