]Fast and Furious 6 hits the accelerator at the Australian box office

REVHEAD action movie Fast & Furious 6 has raced off the grid at the Aussie box office, speeding its way to the top with a $2.07 million opening day.

That's bigger than The Hangover Part III's $1.7 million and The Great Gatsby's $1.1 million, both of which opened last month.

However, Iron Man 3, which opened in April to $3.4 million, is looking untouchable as the year's best opening day.

Fast & Furious 6 has surprised many with its full-throttle performance around the globe - taking almost $514 million in its first 13 days of release, including a $102 million opening weekend in the US.

However, 2011's Fast & Furious 5 was also a quick starter, grossing $9.6 million in its first five days in Australia and leaving the much-hyped Thor in its dust.

The Fast juggernaut will continue at pace with a release date of July 10, 2014 already set for Fast & Furious 7.

While Vin Diesel has declared an Australian-set Fast movie would be a great idea - "I've been dying to get back to Australia," he told Hit this week, " ... put it out there now and we get closer to making it a reality" - Fast 7 already has an Aussie connection with James Wan (Saw, Insidious) announced to direct.

The figures on Fast 6's full opening weekend performance will come in after the long weekend. In the meantime, Baz Luhrmann's Gatsby is soaking up a little more sunshine.

The 1920s-set drama has grossed $9.5 million in one week and should make it to $13 or even $14 million over the weekend (depending how successful distributor Roadshow are with their push to have punters see the movie for a second time)

Me too, of course :cain: But was he trying to be a good family man? :notsure:
