Maria's run at the Brisbane International is over as she lost 2-6 6-7 to no.1 seed Serena Williams of the United States in the semis. The match lasted an hour and 43 minutes.

When the new WTA rankings are released on Monday, Maria will up one spot to no.3.

Maria's next tournament will be the first Grand Slam of the year at the Australian Open in Melbourne which begins on January 13th.

Beaten by Serena yet again!

^ A defeat is always disappointing but it being her first tournament for months I personally didn't have high hopes for a victory. She just isnt "match ready" to take on the might of Serena
