He captains both Palmeiras and the Paraguay national football team, and is widely regarded as one of South America's top defenders. Gómez began his senior career with Club Libertad before moving to Lanús, where he won the Argentine league title in 2016. After a spell with AC Milan, he joined Palmeiras, becoming a key leader and helping the club win multiple major trophies, including several Brazilian league titles and two consecutive Copa Libertadores championships. Known for his leadership, aerial strength, and tough defending, Gómez has represented Paraguay internationally since 2013 and has served as the national team's captain in major tournaments. He was also named Paraguay's Footballer of the Year in 2021.
