Featured Replies

Ao Tanaka (田中 碧) is a Japanese professional footballer born on 10 September 1998 in Kawasaki, Japan. He plays as a central midfielder for Leeds United and the Japan national team.

He came through the youth system of Kawasaki Frontale, where he eventually broke into the first team and became part of a successful era for the club, winning multiple domestic titles including the J1 League.

In 2021, he moved to Europe on loan to Fortuna Düsseldorf in Germany’s 2. Bundesliga, later making the move permanent. His strong performances there helped raise his profile, particularly for his ball-winning and box-to-box contributions.

In 2024, he transferred to Leeds United in England, where he became an important midfield option and contributed to the club’s push for success in the Championship and beyond. He’s known for being tactically disciplined, energetic, and capable of contributing both defensively and in late attacking runs.

Internationally, Tanaka has been a regular for Japan since 2019, featuring in major tournaments including the FIFA World Cup 2022, where he notably scored against Spain in the group stage.

Overall, he’s seen as a modern, versatile midfielder who connects defense and attack and adapts well across different European leagues.
