Born in New York City in 1928, she made her Broadway debut in Medea in 1948 and became one of the most respected figures in American theater.Best known for her stage work, Seldes won a Tony Award for her performance in A Delicate Balance in 1967 and later received a Special Tony Award for Lifetime Achievement in 2010. She was a frequent interpreter of playwright Edward Albee’s works and earned a reputation for her intelligence, elegance, and versatility as a performer.
