Penelope Cruz: Baby Bump Cover-Up!

Wearing a slimming black outfit, Penelope Cruz covers up her baby bump while working on the set of a new mystery project on Tuesday afternoon (September 8) in Los Angeles.

As reported exclusively last month, the Madrid-born actress and her longtime love Javier Bardem are expecting their first child together.

Penelope, 35, and Javier, 40, appeared together in three films — Jamón, Jamón, Live Flesh and Vicky Cristina Barcelona.

Salma, Valentina, and Penelope Meet Up For Girls' Lunch in LA

Salma Hayek brought Valentina to meet up with Penelope Cruz for lunch yesterday in LA. The BFFs are both so busy these days we don't get to see them together quite as much as we used to — especially since Salma has her daughter and family to take care of. Now, with the ongoing rumors that Penelope is expecting a baby with Javier Bardem, the longtime friends may be able to share motherhood like they have so much over the course of their friendship.

At TIFF Penelope was asked about it, but her publicist moved her along to the next question. While a bit later Miss Cruz opened up to USA Today’s Donna Freydkin on the red carpet and said “I start getting some presents from friends saying, ‘Congratulations, you’re pregnant.’ And I say, ‘No, I’m not, so return the presents,’” she told Donna. “It’s amazing.”

Penélope Cruz Irked by Pregnancy Question

For several weeks, tabloids and the blogosphere have been abuzz with speculation that Penélope Cruz is pregnant with boyfriend Javier Bardem's baby, sparked by photos of the Spanish beauty sporting what some have described as a baby bump.

And the Oscar-winning actress is not happy about it.

On the red carpet of Thursday night's Toronto International Film Festival premiere of Cruz's new film, Broken Embraces, she let her annoyance show. A witness tells PEOPLE that when a TV crew brought up the topic, a clearly irked Cruz, 35, snapped, "That's your question?!" – and promptly stomped away.

Cruz was more forthcoming with USA Today.

"I start getting some presents from friends saying, 'Congratulations, you're pregnant.' And I say, 'No, I'm not, so return the presents,'" she told the newspaper. "It's amazing."
