Sonia de Waal aka Sonia Cabano was a famous model & chef from Cape Town, South Africa. She has served as a professional food writer, freelance chef,speaker.

She was born in Bloemfontein to South African parents and later moved to Brandfort and further to Cape Town.

In the beginning of her career, she worked as a model and appeared on various national & international magazine covers. She had worked as a model for many print advertising campaigns in 1980s.

Sonia died in 2021 at 57.
