Actress Fan Bingbing tops Forbes China celebrity list For the third year running, Forbes China magazine has put the 33-year-old on top of its annual Celebrity 100 list, released on Monday. The Chinese actress is ahead of celebrities such as Jay Chou, Nicholas Tse, Andy Lau and Jackie Chan, having earned the most in the past year - 128 million yuan (S$27.6 million) - said the magazine. She also gained from media and Web exposure via her eye-popping turn as a cleavage-baring empress in the serial The Empress Of China as well as her appearances as a judge on talent show Amazing Chinese. Taiwan star Chou, 36, is at No. 2, with 101 million yuan earned, helped by media interest in his recent wedding, endorsement deals and Opus tour, Forbes said. Hong Kong's Nicholas Tse, 34, shot to No. 3 from 16th position last year on account of his well received cooking show Chef Nic and news of his reunion with singer Faye Wong. Noteworthy was Hong Kong singer-actor William Chan's entry at No. 70, after gaining popularity in last year's Swords Of Legends serial. The former Sun Boy'z member has been the butt of Internet jokes ever since 2009, when actor Huang Xiaoming said "I don't know who William Chan is" to questions that he had come in between Chan, 29, and his then girlfriend Angelababy. Now Huang may have to eat his words. Meanwhile, Hong Kong's G.E.M, who broke out in China's singing contest I Am A Singer in 2014, rocketed to No. 11 from No. 91 on last year's list. And two Heavenly Kings slipped - Andy Lau, with an income of 70 million yuan, fell for the first time since 2010 out of the top three slots to rank eighth, while singer Jacky Cheung was nowhere on the list, said Apple. Forbes China Celebrity List: Top 10 1. Fan Bingbing 2. Jay Chou 3. Nicholas Tse 4. Jackie Chan 5. Huang Xiaoming 6. Sun Li 7. Vicki Zhao 8. Andy Lau 9. Li Yifeng 10. Eason Chan straitstimes.com

The Fan Bingbing historical bodice-ripper caused a stir in mainland China, leading to any suspect cleavage scenes being replaced with close-ups of the characters' faces. Hong Kong's TVB channel has bought the rights to the Fan Bingbing historical drama Empress of China and has hired a CGI team to provide extra coverage for the controversial cleavage scenes which caused such a stir during the show's run in mainland China. When it first aired last year, Chinese censors required the producers to edit the show to focus on the characters’ heads, rather than their cleavage. TVB has instead used a team of CGI experts to place material over the offending material. TVB Executive Catherine Tsang told local media that they would broadcast a version with fewer episodes, although claimed it would still allow viewers to enjoy the period costumes and scenery. Tsang said she hoped "viewers appreciate the uncensored version." The series, also known as The Saga of Wu Zetian, dramatizes the life of China’s only female emperor, who ruled during the Tang Dynasty (618 A.D. to 907 A.D.). It is reportedly China’s most expensive TV drama and features Bingbing, who starred in X-Men: Days of Future Past, in the lead role. The actress is set to visit Hong Kong to promote the show, which will be dubbed into Cantonese. The Chinese government has been on a crusade to introduce greater modesty and morality into public life, which has translated into tougher censorship rules for TV and movies. While the cleavage shots might not raise many eyebrows in the West, China has stricter standards when it comes to public displays of nudity. In 2006, Gong Li’s eye-catching décolleté in director Zhang Yimou’s Curse of the Golden Flower caused a renewed debate about the need for a ratings system in local movie theaters. Source:hollywoodreporter.com The Chinese historical drama “Empress of China” starring Fan Bingbing is set to hit Hong Kong with extra coverage on the controversial cleavage scenes after TVB decided to buy the rights to air the drama. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Hong Kong's TVB had even hired an expert CGI team in order to make the show's offending material to be covered instead of directing the focus of viewers to the character's heads instead of the cleavages. The "Empress of China" garnered strict censorship after its release in China with the country's entertainment watchdog required the makers of the show to edit the scenes that show cleavages of some of the female characters and refocus the scenes instead to their heads. In Hong Kong, the historical epic drama series would first be aired in April, showcasing fewer episodes but allowing the audience more chances to enjoy the scenery and costumes during the ancient Chinese period it features. TVB Executive Catherine Tsang even expressed her hopes that "viewers appreciate the uncensored version" of the drama, also known as "The Saga of Wu Zetian," featuring the life of China's only female emperor who reigned over the country in A.D. 618 to A.D. 907 at the time of the Tang Dynasty. Reports revealed that it is China's most expensive TV series to date and, as proof, stars one of the cast members of Hollywood's "X-Men: Days of Future Past" Fan Bingbing playing the titular role of Wu Zetian. The China Entertainment News reported that the actress would be visiting Hong Kong soon to promote the drama, which would be translated into Cantonese.
