yeah, that's not bad. I created this formation for our college team that the coach used:
GK
<-CB CB CB->
DM DM
RW MC LW
| |
\/ \/
ST ST
those should be arrows under the wingers
a lot of double duty, and the players have to be pretty fit. we gave up twice as many goals, but scored 4x as much.
I know. I read your other post
And it doesn't matter how much you leak, as long as you win
What if the attack had a bad day?

formations aren't about numbers, they're about the players. when I was in college, we had two mids that couldn't score for crap but they were amazing tacklers... weren't tall enough to defend but had great speed. thus they were used as DMs. since we had two, we had to have a formation around that.
sure, we could have used them as MCs in 442, but that's a waste, since we had good wingers as well. so we had like a 3-2-2-1-2. a centreback, two D's on the sides that swept wide, 2 DM's, 2 wings, an AMC and 2 strikers. we were unstoppable until one of the DM's went down and we went to a 442.
Don't get me wrong, if they play a 4-3-2-1 because it's better for their players, that's fine by me. I was just ranting randomly because I don't like the formation in general, regardless of the players. I believe in using width, whereas the typical Xmas Tree template provides a somewhat defensive approach, and attacking through the centre.
I assume if you were a manager you'd probably play a formation to your team's strengths?

The Argentina-Holland game was boringThey both rested some key players, and neither team wanted to lose
RVN has not looked good at all, I thought he'd be scoring at will in order to prove something to Sir Alex
But the Ivory Coast-Serbia game was great
I'm so happy Ivory Coast got a win
'Twas rather boring, though if I had to decide a winner it'd be Argentina. They were more menacing and got to the final 3rd, unlike the Dutch, who didn't really produce much <_<
And RVN has been really quiet...I'm not sure why, but maybe it's because there's no direct suppy line for him to feed off?
Even when they crossed into the box I didn't notice him. If he's playing hide-and-seek, he's doing a mighty fine job

yeah, any team with better AMs than STs should be using something like a 451, would is really a 4321
BOOOOO! to 4-3-2-1 :yuckky: or should I say "The Xmas Tree" formation?
Not that I think formation templates really matter, but if one were to structure their team on such a template, then they would be better off with a 4-2-3-1
it's a world of difference
nevermind me, I'm all for wingers

England should change to a 4-5-1 now with Owen out, plus it would allow Gerrard and Lampard to push up more.
But Sven is dumb and he probally can't realise that
Rooney's hissy fit was disgusting :x He's gotta smarten up
Ha! Everyone was wondering why there wasn't an extra striker brought into the squad. Luckily, Rooney came through, but now it seems they're back in square one!
It's kind of good now cause Crouch can play and Sven doesn't have to "drop" Owen...
Gerrard and Lampard both suck. Maybe things might change if he dropped one of them from his midfield
*cough* Gerrard has 2 goals *cough*

Now that Rooney can play, Walcott doesn't have much use. He doesn't have the experience, just raw talent. He'd get marked out of a game with his physique and apparently, although he has plenty of pace, he's not really suited to playing along the flanks.
If they're not going to play him in their last game, then I don't think they'll play him at all, unless conservative Sven has to change his tactics, but I doubt that'll happen, unless its for something more defensive.
Poor Theo

Do they need just a draw to get to the next round?
The aussies are pretty violent :trout: but I like it
And Hiddink is just awsome, the man deserves to win a World Cup
Is Hiddink coaching Russia after the WC
yeh, we just need a draw, but I hope we're positive and play for the win
and yes, Hiddink is going to be Abramovich's bitch coach of Russia after the WC :|
It's scary if you think about it... Russia have some good players and Hiddink has the potential to turn them into something like the USSR team of old
-
Ed what you think of your Aussie's?
I hope they get into the next round
In Guus we trust.
No Guus, No Glory.
I think Guus has done a fantastic job!
We are a little physical sometimes, but we have enough skills to mix it with the big boys. If not, we can always break their legs
We're a good unit. We're organised and determined to do well. Unfortunately, we lack players with class and finesse. If anyone, it'd be Kewell and Bresciano that had those attributes.
Against Brasil, we put in a good performance but were unlucky not to get anything from the game. I think we deserve to be in the last 16, more than anyone else in our group.
Hopefully we can overcome the Croatians :lullaby:

This is my team based on what I've seen...
Abbondanzieri
Ayala ----- Lucio ----- Lahm
Ze Roberto ----- Y Toure ----- Xavi -----Kaka
van Persie ----- Drogba ----- Torres
Subs: Schwarzer, Juan, Eboue, Puyol, Cahill, Mascherano, Zokora, Fabregas, Messi, Villa, Robben
Rationale
Abbondanzieri: Good positioning. Not only does he release the ball quickly for the forwards, but have you seen the accuracy of those long balls?
Ayala: Very experienced and organises Argie's back trio well.
Lucio: Taking into account Brasil's defence, he has been untouchable. Pips in ahead of Juan for his forays into enemy territory as well.
Lahm: Now people know who I'm talking about when I talk about him. Bit lazy tracking back sometimes though.
Ze Roberto: Another one of Brasil's stars in defence. Doesn't hack as much as Emerson, can play the ball and support the attack, all without negating his defensive duties (as evident against Australia)
Toure: Had my eye on him. Now I know why Wenger offered
