  1. I very much agree with you, @BlueMoonX

Regarding the most profitable new Angels, it seems to me that Sara is more popular outside of the US. In the US, I'd say Taylor and Elsa are at the top, but it seems as though Sara has some international pull. That's just my impression.

Apparently I'm the only one who doesn't care for Josephine. I guess she has a nice body, but you can't convince me she has a nice face.

Then again, as I've said, Taylor is the only one I really see anything in. Elsa and Lais are next.  But lately I'm not even that big on Taylor.

Oh, and Kate G. has grown on me, but she def has a mostly HF look. I won't be sad if VS cuts her - I don't think VS is the right place for her.

  3. It's interesting to hear friends /family who don't follow models or VS talk about the show. Here are some random comments they made to me:

    • "Not to sound like a bitch, but I didn't think the models were that pretty. I mean, look at this photo someone sent me - why is this girl a Victoria's Secret model?" - my friend as she showed me a photo of Megan Puleri on the runway
    • "Don't you need boobs to be a Victoria's Secret model?" - the same friend, talking about how she didn't understand why Kendall was in the show.
    • "Who is Gigi Hadid? Apparently she's famous because of her parents or something?"
    • "Some of them are pretty until you see them talk - small teeth, bad teeth, or crooked mouth."
    • "I thought a lot of them were pretty. Don't know if they're really modeling fashions though.  Can't see because of the wings and other costume stuff."
    • "Which one made out with Miley?"

As usual with VS, I don't have a clue.

Haha, I also cannot predict what they're thinking ever, since they always seem to do the opposite of what I would do. :p

For a while I thought maybe they were just offending fashion-types and loyal VSFS fans with the direction they were going, but that the public liked this sort of thing (not that great of models, high-profile musical acts that didn't really fit the image, costumes on the runway).  Judging by this year's viewership ratings, however, it doesn't look like they're pleasing the public anymore, either. People I know IRL also said they weren't impressed.

A lot of your ideas are good, HitchcockBlonde. I honestly never understand what they're thinking, so your guess is probably better than mine.

Imagine, though, if they still did '05-'07-style VS shows and held a lingerie show as well as a swimwear show - or just made a longer VSFS once per year showcasing their lingerie, clothing (VSX, sleepwear), and swimsuits. I would love either of those options.

VS has great swimsuits; at least they have a "Swim Special" now, though, which is something.  Props to Prettyphile for being one of the first I saw floating around the idea of a VS swimwear show.

2005-2008 is the pinnacle, Gisele's Fantasy Bra opening haunts me in the best way, and I can't really say exactly why but everything felt sexier with that dark lighting and that high-glam makeup.

I miss those remixes, good God. I nearly cried over I Like the Way You Move / Carol of the Bells being in last year's holiday commercial.

I feel like the best era will never again be replicated because pop culture was different, modelling was different, attitudes were different. And that saddens me but I know there's a way to adapt and VS is not doing it. I take my girls in their knickers very seriously.

    +1

Probably didn't help that I was re-watching some '05 and '06 segments yesterday before the show aired...haha

Those remixes....sorely missed. :cry2: (When You Were Young/Come Fly With Me, I Like The Way You Move, I Want Candy/Pon de Replay, Bang Bang by Audio Bullies, and the Seal songs - so great). Oh, and Carol of the Bells in the holiday commercials was so amazing.

For me the show went downhill after Todd Thomas left, so after 2012. Sophia just doesn't do it for me. The outfits now are either too simple and boring or too much over the top. And she always has her weird ideas to make everything couture. I also believe it's just better to have more than one person designing the outfits to have some more input. but I blame that on Ed and Monica aswell. Monica seems to be pretty involved in the collection design process and I don't understand how they think some pieces work on the runway.

I don't pay attention to who exactly the higher ups are, to be honest, but I've heard mention of Sophia's arrival, Todd Thomas' departure, and a French guy's departure (can't remember his name haha) as things that gradually caused it to become what it is today.

Bottom line, VS now seems most interested in branding its own Angels - who don't do much work outside of VS - rather than getting together a bunch of top models. It wants to "discover" supermodels who are then synonymous with VS, as it basically did with Ale, Candice, and arguably Adriana (seems like she had other high profile work, including Maybelline, early on as well). Elsa and Behati are two of the latest girls they've been working to do this with. Doesn't seem like they're interested in getting Giseles or Tyras anymore - girls who are established in their own right and then do VS.

It's a really stupid approach IMO, but that's what VS seems to be doing.

They also seem to be trying to find models who are younger than before and appeal more to women than to men....this might be due to a shift in marketing for VS all-around.

Wow, can't believe they lost so much viewers. :oh_no: The most viewed show in recent years was 2011 with 10.3 million viewers. But I actually don't understand why specifically this show.

Well, after 2010 is when the show started to really get worse IMO. Maybe the public didn't like what they saw in 2011.

I don't know. I just really want VS to get rid of Sophia and hire some new higher-ups so we can get VSFS back to what it used to be - the best commercial and HF models of the moment all together in one show.

  8. I really was not impressed by the show, but I'll try to not be too negative here.  Some takeaways:

    • Kendall stood out as one of the prettiest. I'm not really a fan of hers, and I know she's had work done to her face, but the fact stands that she looked better than over 90% of the girls.
    • What was going on with Adriana's makeup? They gave her pale skin and really pink cheeks...and it appeared she wasn't wearing eyeliner. Not a good runway look.
    • There were a couple girls who stood out to me....they weren't Angels. Once I find out who they are I'll let you guys know. ;)
    • The introduction and opening segment were both awful IMO. Just....no.
    • Joan Smalls slayed...as did Magda, as usual.
    • Selena looked slutty and her colored lenses were not flattering.
    • Sara Sampaio is a bad Lima knockoff.
    • I didn't like the music, but I didn't absolutely hate it either. It was an improvement from Taylor Swift and Fall Out Boy.
    • Elsa was one of the better ones, at least on the runway (not so much when they showed her talking, etc.). I'm still not a fan of hers, but compared to the others she looked good.
    • VS is really pushing Jasmine - looks like she's here to stay.  Meanwhile, I hardly saw Lais at all in the talking portions. Not looking good for her.

    That's all I've got for now. :)

I know she's getting a lot of Australian press but I haven't seen that much about her. VS hasn't been pushing her as far as I can tell- little to no coverage on their social media and no special treatment a la Kendull and Gigi. :idk:

For a couple months now DM has been running articles here and there about her. Most recently, they ran an article about her because in an interview with DailyMail Australia, she said she was mad that people say she's too skinny: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-3328071/Victoria-s-Secret-model-Bridget-Malcolm-SLAMS-followers-accused-anorexic.html

Now that I think about it, maybe the Australian press is good at getting coverage of Aussie models in publications like DM. I've seen a decent amount about Shanina in DM lately, as well...and of course Miranda is always a staple in DM coverage.

  10. I grew mine out in late 2011 after keeping them pretty thin for 8 years or so. They're pretty thick now, but I can tell there's some damage from plucking them for so many years. Keira Knightley, Rosie H-W, Kate Upton, Ashley Olsen, and Elizabeth Olsen were my inspiration to grow them out.

    I really like Ashley's:

I also like Barbara's because her natural shape is similar to mine. Like Barbara's, mine are thickest in the middle/arch and on the ends rather than at the beginning.

  11. Sleep is one thing that can make a big difference, and I think lots of people overlook this. Sleep deprivation over time will definitely lead to more wrinkles.

But to answer the question, the magazines I read always say that the only ingredient proven to help diminish wrinkles is retinol. You can buy lots of products at drugstores that contain retinol (any ingredient that begins with retin- is a Vitamin A derivative which will help with anti-aging). The ROC Retinol Correxion line is cheap, effective, and available at most drugstores:

    roc-retinol-correxion-deep-wrinkle-night

Alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs), including glycolic acid and citric acid, are also really good for anti-aging. What's great is these also are really good at diminishing acne, which is key for me. So, those of us who have been using anti-acne products for years are in luck. :p

As someone said earlier, Olay products are also great, and so is Vitamin E cream.

I personally use a prescription retinol cream (tretinoin - pretty cheap, lasts a long time, and it's used for acne, as well). I also make sure to moisturize my face, particularly the eye area.

I think people in general are at their most impressionable circa 17-25 as the mind kind of anchors heavily on external influences. So what fundamental habits of thought, emotional character, and preferences are built up and what is learned during this period is kind of subconsciously fused more (and much harder to unlearn). Thus I believe that this is a critical period of time. I think it's important to live and experience life with the long term always in mind & in this way a series of intense influences that may modify one's future mental state in unforeseen ways should be managed in an informed and careful way.

I believe living the life of a top high fashion model for ie. ten years 17-27 can raise the possibly of skewing one's perception of reality in unsustainable ways (from the lifetime perspective).

Two of my friend's agency girlfriends got a bit weird. I like weird, I like creative, I like brilliant, I like entertaining but I think they formed some more eccentric habits, patterns of thinking, and expectations.

    Also, +1 to this.
