In that case I think they should eliminate the term "Supermodel" all together then because beauty is in the eye of the beholder and even though models like Gisele and Karolina are beautiful, personally I can only see them in the stereotypical high fashion mold because I just can't buy them in the same type of work that Kate is getting. I just don't personally find them sexy just like a lot of people don't see Kate as high fashion material even though I personally think Kate can pull off the high fashion look depending on what they have her wear, same as with any model really because there have been some models I have seen who are normally gorgeous in normal clothes or certain gowns, but then you stick them in the wrong gown/outfit and they look like a train wreck. I think the term "Supermodel" should be more about your star power more than anything no matter what type of modeling you are known for. If you are a household name where everyone and their mothers know who you are, then you should be able to be called a supermodel. That is just how I feel though.
I'd agree with that IF people became household names without getting media assistance.
The only reason anyone knows who 'Kate Upton" is is because she made the cover of the 2012 SI Swim and because the media keeps shoving her down everyone's throat. Instead of letting everyone make a decision on their own they are literally shoving her down our throats...
I think a supermodel should be someone that actually models fashion in multiple countries. Some of the current "supermodels" have walked down runways in several different countries and I think that earns them the right to be called a supermodel. Many of those models have also done magazine spreads for magazines in other countries too...
Kate shot a video for Love Magazine and it shows her rubbing her boobs. I've seen a lot of fashion videos that have nudity and a lot of fashion photoshoots that involve nudity but Kate is the first "model" that I have ever seen rub her boobs seductively like a pornstar.
FYI: I'm not bashing Kate, simply making a few observations about "supermodels" since it was mentioned. There is a certain level of maturity needed to land major fashion contracts and you don't normally see 19/20 year old girls getting those contracts because they just don't have the fame for them. Kate Upton is not popular enough to get world-wide coverage. She's popular in America right now but if you go to Japan or China you won't see her mentioned. True supermodels are known in every country in the world.
