  1. DiCaprio says on-screen violence doesn't deter him

SEOUL, South Korea - Leonardo DiCapro says filming violent scenes like in "Django Unchained" doesn't deter him from wanting his movies to be great art.

The bloody revenge film about slavery before the U.S. Civil War has fueled some of the debate about whether Hollywood shows too much on-screen violence. DiCaprio portrays a ruthless plantation owner encountered by a freed slave and bounty hunter (Jamie Foxx and Christoph Waltz).

DiCaprio told reporters in South Korea on Thursday, "My philosophy has kind of always been the same: Pain is temporary, film is forever."

If he gives his films all the focus he can and the elements come together correctly, "you come out with a great piece of art."

The actor said it was his first visit to South Korea. "Django Unchained" opens there March 21.

  8. Best Performances Snubbed By Oscars Of-Late

Leonardo Di Caprio in ‘Django Unchained’ and ‘The Departed‘

No need for immersible angles, there he is. Scarring the skin of his character layer by layer, Leonardo perches himself comfortably in its body. For bareness, the man can’t be beat — nor for brilliance. In Tarantino’s anti-state of art masterpiece, you should be rooting for Django, but you might as well be rooting for the evil Calvin Candie. Most likely, you will be rooting against anyone who doesn’t let Candie have his way! The stream is originating from Leonardo’s character in ‘The Departed’. The man living under a 24 hour angst and devastated by panic-attacks, has been played by the most excellent Mr. Caprio in such a quicksilver spirit that you start giving a damn about who wins what between Costello and Queenan.

And did Leonardo Di Caprio get an Oscar nomination for either of these roles? NO.

    Live with that.

Kate Winslet and Leonardo Di Caprio in ‘Revolutionary Road’

Alright, Kate won herself an Oscar for ‘The Reader’, but to be honest, it was one of the weakest holocaust flicks to have come in a long time, and even Kate Winslet didn’t look like that ‘lone bright spot’. She was fine- Nothing more, nothing less. Revolutionary Road, a movie which itself deserved a far-better deal, bought the better in her as an emotionally tarnished woman who wants to live a ‘goddamn fantasy’. Leonardo Di Caprio is brutal in his versatility and that’s what is up for display- a performance like a consummate work of art. Kate and Leonardo are like dancing partners, matching beat to beat and transcending the hollowness that lies somewhere in the making of the film.

These are actors who have a range of natural impulses that lend a restrained yet intense and authentic feel to all of their characters. Rest assured, they will not let you ever imagine anyone else in their roles.

Only if the Academy could see!

Leonardo DiCaprio Calls on Thailand to Outlaw Sale of Ivory

The 38-year-old actor signed a World Wildlife Fund petition this week, urging Thailand’s Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra to outlaw the sale of ivory in her country.

"Illegal wildlife trade is the most urgent threat facing species like tigers, rhinos and elephants. These animals are being killed every day to feed an escalating demand for their body parts," DiCaprio wrote on his Facebook page.

In Thailand, elephants are revered as a sacred animal. But the country currently allows ivory harvested from captive Thai elephants to be legally sold in its shops and marketplaces. All ivory for sale in the Kingdom is required by law to be certified by the Thai Provincial Administration Department as having come from legal sources, but critics say the system is rife with corruption and often gamed, and that Thailand has become a global hotbed for the illegal sale of smuggled African elephant tusks.

According to WWF, the illegal poaching of African elephants reached record levels in 2012, largely because of growing demand for ivory bracelets and decorative trinkets in China.

"Much of the ivory trade goes through Thailand," DiCaprio wrote. "We can help save these beautiful animals. Join me and the World Wildlife Fund and tell Thailand to ban all sales of ivory."

During a WWF-organized press conference at the landmark Central World mall in downtown Bangkok on Thursday, local Thai TV, film and radio talent -- including, Varin Sachdev, Pip Ravit Terdwong, Nampung Natrarika Thampridanant, Note Watcharabul Leesuwan and Egg Busakorn Tantiphana -- all joined the stage to call on Thai citizens to sign the DiCaprio backed petition.

The organizers are hoping to collect one million signatures before presenting the petition to Prime Minister Yingluck at the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (Cites), which will be held in Bangkok on March 3.

More than 400,000 people from Thailand and across the world have signed the petition so far, according to WWF. Other Hollywood names known to have joined the initiative include: Emily VanCamp and Josh Bowman from ABC’s Revenge, Lost’s Ian Somerhalder, actor Ethan Suplee, and Alyssa Milano.

“Every voice counts in the fight to stop the slaughter and save an iconic species that we revere as sacred,” Janpai Ongsiriwittaya, a local campaign leader for WWF Thailand said at the Bangkok event.
