  3. Cheryl : The girls just wanna have fun The Girls just wanna have fun Apr 27 2007 By Gordon Barr, The Evening Chronicle Keep your eyes peeled for Girls Aloud out and about in the Toon over the next few weeks. Entertainment Editor Gordon Barr explains all. Girls Aloud are the first to admit they are party animals. Five feisty females at the top of their game. They are for ever being snapped at showbiz events, premieres and nights out on the town. In a couple of weeks they will be embarking on their greatest hits tour, their biggest to date, and will spend several days in Newcastle for pre-production rehearsals, as the gigs start with one of two shows at the city's Metro Radio Arena. Geordie singer and one fifth of the group Cheryl Cole is adamant she's going to give the others a taste of the famous Newcastle nightlife. I suggest to her the gruelling tour and rehearsals schedule will leave little time for frolicking, but she insists: "We'll find the time - we'll find it! "I'm going to have to show them the ropes and take them out and about! They're all really excited as well, as I always go on about it and everybody you see down here says thing like `I went to Newcastle last year and it was great, or I went to university there.' So they're all really excited to be there as well." Girls Aloud's Newcastle shows are on May 14 and 18, and so far nearly 17,000 tickets have been sold - that means they have sold more tickets at the venue than any other girl group. "That's amazing," says Cheryl, 23, wife of Chelsea defender Ashley Cole. "I won an award a couple of months ago - one of the most influential people of the North East. "It's too much to take in sometimes. When you say things like that to me, about us being the best-selling at the Arena, it's like I can't believe it. "It's huge. It's the biggest show to date, our greatest hits, all our career so far rounded up into one show. If you're a Girls Aloud fan you're going to wet your pants. "I don't want to give too much away but I got goosebumps just watching our dancers going through the motions. My hairs were standing up on the back of my neck. "Am I still nervous before going on stage? The minute I stop feeling that is the minute I have to stop because the passion's gone. It's not a bad thing, it's just a scary thing." Cheryl is making her mark on TV and film too. She was one of the celebrities on Comic Relief's The Apprentice. "That for me was totally different from what I do," she recalls. "A real eye-opener. I really enjoyed myself and would do it again, and we raised over a million pounds, which was the main thing. I was just blown away that we were able to raise that amount of money. I'd definitely do it again. "Alan [sugar] actually wrote me a note after The Apprentice saying if he was to hire anybody it would be me. Where I was the youngest, maybe everyone was a little bit biased. "I was quite open and honest with him. He was trying at the beginning saying I was from a manufactured pop girl group, and I was like, `Yeah, we are manufactured'. I wasn't trying to defend myself, I was just honest. And I think he respects that." She has also just finished filming a cameo role in the forthcoming St Trinian's movie. "We just did two days filming, it's only a small part, we're supposed to be the St Trinian's school band," she explains. "It was really good fun. I thought it was going to be hard work but it wasn't, we just enjoyed ourselves. We had a new song, The St Trinian's Song, and we just had to sing along with a crowd of kids. "I would love to give movies a go. There's always that stigma attached to a pop star or someone in the music industry trying to cross over but I'd like to give it a go. I think it would be good fun and it's definitely something I would follow up. "I wouldn't turn it down if it was offered but it's not something I would go looking for. My first love is music so I will stick to that for now." Four and a half years down the line, what is Cheryl's favourite Girls Loud song? "I go through phases. I used to love Love Machine, and now my favourite is probably Something Kind Of Ooh, because it was such a fantastic hit and everybody in the clubs get up to it, it's just a great track to dance to. It makes you feel good." http://icnewcastle.icnetwork.co.uk/0300ent...-name_page.html ^Interview
