For me this whole SI thing has gotten way out of control
And about Genevieve. She works really hard but she got lucky. If she wasn't in SA SI, she would never gotten a New York agency. She is short. She is bigger. She is not what you call model material. Sure, she is cute and has a body that men like but she is extremely limited. If she was a American, she would be lucky to have a Miami agency and she would be doing Sears, Kohl's and JCPenney Catalog. She's not a playboy reject; she just isn't Vogue material. There are different types of models for different reasons. I am not a fan of hers particularly because I feel there are models with so much better bodies than hers (if your going to be that type of model)
I just want you guys to know some things:
There is a reason why there are so many Brazilian's, South African, and Australians get placed with so many agencies as well as good ones. If you ever look, American models are lucky to have agencies in Europe if they aren't the "show card" girls. Its not easy for a commercial model to make it in the US because they can't get the good work. Then, the agencies aren't willing to place them with outside agencies over a editorial model. Where as South Africa, its easy to get editorial work regardless of whether your editorial, commercial, or even a catalog model. The same goes for Australia. In Brazil, it's hard to get work because there are so many models and so many agencies but they don't have to compete with many outsiders or celebrities. However, Brazilian models get sent all over to build their books so even if they don't get lucky at home they are still not going to be pigeon hold into a type of modeling they aren't because of their location. I am not saying commercial models don't get these chances in America. They do but its much harder. Then they have to compete with Brazilian models, Asian Models, and Eastern European models who have some success and ditch their mother agency for and American one.
So when determining who will get in and who will get what ever years cover, you know that if it's an American girl its because she is so well known that its a given they will take her. That's why I posted what I said before (the whole tirade of ever cover model's boy friend). The girls in high profile relationships whether they are real or not get in the magazine. It's not who you know its who you screw. It might not be a male celebrity. It could be the right SI editor or even the right publicist or agency owner. There is so much that some of you guys aren't aware of. SI is super cut throat. Some girls get lucky and other make their own luck.
SI is one of the most political castings. South African models always had a leg up because they always pick at least one girl from that magazine to be in the US one. Not that I am complaining, I do like a lot of South African models.
And just because your in SI doesn't mean your guaranteed to be successful. There are so many rookies whose careers bombed. Sure, they got placed with some more agencies but they aren't pulling in the money they should.
I say keep it simple. Ever year use different models. I always said every agency in every major fashion city should be able to send 3 of their models on a casting. This way there is more diversity. Its always the same models from the same countries. Sometimes I will see a model in the fashion section and think wow she would be great for SI but she isn't with the right agencies. Then there are models who do it year after year and I think if you have to keep doing SI to keep your career afloat you are doing something wrong. These girls need to parlay their career with SI not use it as a crutch.
I'll stop complaining about SI because its a great opportunity for commercial models. In the beginning it was all about Vogue and Elle and most of these models would never been in magazines like those if they weren't in this one first.

Ireland Baldwin, cool. Not too many steps up from a Kardashian with that one.
no there is a difference between her and the Kardashian's. she is a legacy fashion model. a lot of agencies sign daughter's of former models even sister hoping to strike gold twice. i am not crazy about her but she is like a baby Kate Upton which means there are plenty of people who will like her. She has her work cut out for her. She's going to have to work really hard to make people believe she isn't some entitled celebutante. Look at Amber Lebon or Tali Lennox, they took the high road and work hard.
There are certain models like the Geldof girls, the Hiltons, etc, who aren't real models. They are just party girls who get press and get campaigns. They don't go on go-sees. Hopefully for Ireland's sake she can prove that she's more than some celebrities' kid. The fact she doesn't have the stereotypical model's body is going to make it hard but she does have IMG behind her. Wherever she goes, the agencies will always treat her better because of who she is. Hopefully, she won't take advantage of that and be like Paris Hilton. Remember she started out as a model.
I obviously don't know 1/10th as much about modelling as you do, but to me "legacy model" sounds like a nice term for "entitled celebutante." I especially believe this because I don't like Ireland's look, not even a bit, and don't believe she would be booking anything more than random hair shows in the south if she weren't born to famous parents. I like quite a few current girls who were born to famous parents, but I like them because I think they have what it takes to have made it without their celeb status... not so with Ireland.
If she gets into modelling and is successful, good for her, but I don't think she's right for SI at all.
Lily Aldridge is also a legacy model. Meaning her mother was a professional model. Actually, her mother was a glamour model but you don't see people saying that about her. I don't think she is entitled. I think she is rich with famous parents. She goes on go-sees which are modeling auditions where the Kardashians don't. Its a big difference. It means she actually works to get the jobs she gets. She might be a bitch or a party girl but she definitely is better than Kardashians.
And this is from someone who isn't a fan of hers. Cut her some slack.

Don't really see the similarities between Ireland Baldwin and Kate Upton to be honest. Upton has more curves, Baldwin is taller (much taller). Ireland also has a rather plain face compared to Kate.
Ireland is young. By the time she is Kate's age, she will have a similar body. I remember Kate Upton back when she was in development with Elite. She wasn't as heavy or curvy as she is now. But they are similar type models, Height doesn't really matter unless your able to do runway which neither are. they are catalog models at best who got extremely lucky. They have no hip to waist ratio. I don't think Kate Upton is curvy. I think Kate Upton has huge boobs. If she were a B Cup, she wouldn't even be here. a curvy model is Tyra Banks who has a hip to waist ratio, a nice butt, and a great rack. Its not just about the breasts.

^ That video could have gone viral if it has been uploaded in good quality to youtube.
There is a HQ button to see her in better quality ! And i agree with you, but i have no Youtube channel personnaly, enough work with Gen LOL
Xenia 2015
No to Xenia. She is way too skinny plus her SA SI shots weren't that great. 2015 should be somebody different. Would love to see some diversity.
