by unamadridista You know how we all had nice things to say about Sergio, for being such a caring tío? Well, Iker’s just as wonderful. On Dec. 6, he will be named a UN Goodwill Ambassador and Messenger of Peace, and will go to Geneva for the nomination. According to Marca, Iker considers this an honor and a great responsibility. This is of course in addition to his work with Plan and the global fight against malaria.

Bojan Krkic: I took my chances Barcelona youngster Bojan Krkic believes he still has a major part to play for the club after bagging a double against Almeria. Pep Guardiola's troops ran amok against the home side, racking up an amazing 8-0 result with Argentina sensation Lionel Messi grabbing a hat-trick and substitute Bojan helping himself to a brace. A Santiago Acasiete own goal along with strikes from Andres Iniesta and Pedro compounded an absolutely miserable day for rock-bottom Almeria, who sacked under-fire coach Juanma Lillo straight after the match. Speaking to Marca after the tie, Bojan declared: "I know I am true to this team and I took my chance in a match where we were clearly superior. "When you are winning you want to score more goals and improve the outcome." Despite running riot in Andalusia, Bojan believes that next week's blockbuster clash with Real Madrid will be a whole new ball game. "It's a completely different game but we arrive at a good time," the precocious teenager added. The Nou Camp outfit are second in the table having registered 31 points after Sunday's encounter.

Almeria 0-8 Barcelona Lionel Messi struck a hat-trick and Bojan Krkic bagged a brace as Barcelona strolled to an incredible 8-0 victory at Almeria. Pep Guardiola's side raced into a 5-0 lead before half-time in a hugely one-sided contest. Messi opened the scoring after 17 minutes and Andres Iniesta took advantage of poor defending to score the second just two minutes later. A Santiago Acasiete own goal made it 3-0 before the half hour mark, Pedro made it four 10 minutes prior to the interval and Messi added his second in Barca's very next attack. Substitute Bojan added two in the second half and Messi completed his hat-trick as Guardiola's side ran riot in Andalusia. Barcelona came into this match on the back of five straight Primera Division victories, but the Catalans were still a point behind Jose Mourinho's Real Madrid, who were in action at home to Athletic Bilbao straight after this match. Almeria, meanwhile, were struggling at the wrong end of the table, having won just once in the league all season. Reports in Spain suggested that coach Juanma Lillo, a friend and mentor of Guardiola, would lose his job if his side lost this match. But any other outcome seemed highly unlikely as the game got under way. David Villa saw an angled shot saved by Diego Alves and drilled the rebound wide as Barca almost took the lead after just two minutes. Victor Valdes saved from Pablo Piatti at the other end, but normal service was resumed shortly afterwards as Messi came close after seven minutes. But the Argentina winger, fresh from scoring the winner against Brazil in a midweek friendly, was not to be denied for long. The 23 year-old played a sublime one-two with Villa on the edge of the box, moved into space and beat Alves with an unstoppable angled drive to make it 1-0. Two minutes later, Iniesta made it two after some poor defending from the home side. The Spain midfielder saw his cross blocked, but raced onto the loose ball to beat an exposed Alves. The third was an even bigger gift from Almeria, as Acasiete stuck out a foot to divert Maxwell's low cross past his own keeper after 27 minutes. Pedro then latched onto a pass from deep and poked the ball past Alves, who had come racing off his line, to make it 4-0. Almost every Barca attack was ending up in a goal at this stage and from the next one, Messi made it five. Pedro advanced into the area and squared for the Argentinian, who saw his initial effort saved by Alves, but gratefully poked home the rebound for his second of the night. Guardiola looked almost embarrassed on the sidelines and made two changes at the break, with Seydou Keita and Thiago Alcantara replacing Xavi and Iniesta. Piatti then hit the bar for Almeria as Barca's intensity dropped. But Bojan, who minutes earlier had replaced Pedro, made it six with a quality finish shortly after the hour, when he was set up by Messi on the edge of the box and found his way between two defenders before clipping the ball past the hapless Alves. Messi then sealed his hat-trick six minutes later, when he poked home from close range after Alves had parried Villa's first-time shot. And five minutes after that, the Argentinian strode forward unchallenged from the centre circle to set up Bojan in the area for a simple finish to make it 8-0. There were still 17 minutes left and Barca could have reached double figures, but Villa missed a great chance to write his name on the scoresheet with 11 minutes left and the game ended 8-0. The Catalans moved provisionally two points clear of Madrid at the top of the table, while Lillo looked set to leave Almeria following the Andalusians' humiliating defeat, which left them in the bottom three with just nine points from 12 games.

Guardiola hails perfect Barca victory Barcelona chief Pep Guardiola could not stop purring after his side’s 8-0 destruction at Almeria. Lionel Messi and Bojan Krkic claimed five goals between them, while Andres Iniesta, Pedro and an Almeria own goal saw Barca stroll to victory at a canter. In his post match press conference, Guardiola revealed to the club's official website: "That behaviour, such solidarity, that we all do everything, that's the way. "We scored nearly every time we went forward, unlike other days. It is not easy to describe a game that finished like that. I want to congratulate the team on their effectiveness". "Everything we did is our own merit. That's the way. We have shown once again that if we do certain things, show solidarity, that we all do everything, we control the game. The talent does the rest." Noting that Almeria had the league's third best defensive record, the Barca tactician lavished praise on his team's deadly instincts in front of goal. "There's no doubt that today was the exception, the important thing was stability, we always knew the goals would come". Guardiola also gave credit to stopper Andreu Fontà, who got a rare start ahead of usual centreback Gerard Piqué as well as goalscorer Bojan. He said: "I congratulate Andreu on his performance. Gerard had some trouble with his leg. And there was the risk he'd get booked. But I trust Andreu and took a gamble on him. He had an extraordinary game, congratulations to him. "He (Bojan) never lost his confidence, and neither did we lose faith in him. He was a vital part of the league championship last year. He made the two goals he scored. We know he's there when we need him." Real Madrid and Barcelona have now amassed an equal 33 goals in the league so far this campaign.

The Whites reach Clasico as leaders Real Madrid 5-1 Athletic Bilbao Realmadrid.com Real Madrid head into next week’s Clasico as league leaders following their 5-1 victory against Athletic Bilbao on Saturday. The Whites are still unbeaten after twelve weeks of action and are the only team in La Liga that have yet to lose. Cristiano Ronaldo’s hat-trick and several key saves by Casillas were more than enough to sink Los Leones. Mourinho’s starting eleven runs like clockwork. The way each player helps his teammates and the commitment each shows on the pitch are worthy of commendation. But perhaps the best sign of this team’s maturity is its ability to manage the tempo of matches. Eighteen minutes in, Di Maria found Higuain in the box, where the Argentine turned, split two defenders and beat Iraizoz with a shot to the right of the keeper. Llorente nearly had the equalizer ten minutes later, but Casillas dove to his right to get a hand to the striker’s shot. Real Madrid capitalized on the missed opportunity by Athletic to counter. Higuain marched up the right wing to find Ozil in midfield. The German one-touched to a surging Cristiano Ronaldo, who fired past the keeper with his left foot. With 11 minutes left in regulation, Llorente managed to pull Los Leones within one, but from an offside position. The referee granted the goal despite the protests and the sides headed into the dressing rooms with the scoreboard reading 2-1. Real Madrid dictated the tempo in the second half to prevent the match from getting any closer than it had to. The defense maintained its composure and the offense sought any chance to counter. Athletic, meanwhile, turned to Fernando Llorente for inspiration. Di Maria was tripped inside the box on 55’ after beating Susaeta and Sergio Ramos successfully fired home the ensuing spot kick. Real Madrid continued pouring on the heat and on 62’ Cristiano Ronaldo put the fourth on the board with a rocket of a free-kick that Iraizoz barely got a hand to. The match was all but in the bag with 30 minutes to play. With Ajax and Barcelona on the horizon, Mourinho ordered fresh legs onto the pitch. Lass replaced Khedira, Benzema stepped in for Higuain and Ozil was benched for Granero. Real Madrid never let up despite the comfortable lead. Sergio Ramos came close to a brace but saw his header sail wide. Once in injury time and on the last play of the match, Cristiano Ronaldo completed his hat-trick with a spot kick after Granero was fouled in the box. All sights are now set on Ajax and Barcelona.

Real Madrid 5-1 Athletic Bilbao Cristiano Ronaldo scored a hat-trick as Real Madrid saw off battling Athletic Bilbao 5-1 at the Bernabeu on Saturday evening. With Barcelona winning 8-0 earlier in the evening Madrid knew they needed a victory to take a one-point lead to the Nou Camp for 'El Clasico', and Jose Mourinho's in-form side made no mistake as they made it seven league wins on the trot. Ronaldo netted three of the goals - the final one coming from the penalty spot deep into injury-time - while Gonzalo Higuain and Sergio Ramos, with another penalty, were also on the scoresheet. Athletic, who have a miserable record at the Bernabeu, had made it 2-1 just before half-time through star striker Fernando Llorente but they could make no further in-roads as Madrid - for whom Mourinho was serving the second of a two-match touchline ban - completed a deserved, if slightly flattering, victory. Athletic came into the match having won just 13 times in 79 visits to the Bernabeu down the years, while their past 12 league and cup visits to this ground had ended in defeat. However, they gave Madrid as good as they got in a closely-fought first half and were somewhat unlucky to be trailing at the break. Spain forward Llorente, who has been linked with a move to Madrid in recent weeks, was a major thorn in the home side's defence and he almost put Athletic ahead in the second minute. The powerful striker showed great strength and skill to get through Ricardo Carvalho and Sami Khedira before sliding the ball past Iker Casillas, but Pepe got back to clear off the line. Madrid survived that let-off and took the lead in the 20th minute when Higuain picked up a pass from Angel Di Maria, shrugged off the challenges of Fernando Amorebieta and Mikel San Jose before slotting past Gorka Iraizoz. Far from demoralising Athletic though, that goal seemed to further inspire the Basque outfit and they twice came close to an equaliser with Casillas producing brilliant diving saves to deny Markel Susaeta and Llorente. However, 60 seconds after Casillas kept out Llorente's effort, Madrid raced down the other end and made it 2-0 with a superbly-worked goal through Ronaldo. Higuain and Ozil were both involved before Ronaldo picked up the German international's lay-off before driving a low shot into the far bottom corner. Ronaldo and Higuain both missed chances to make it 3-0 before Athletic pulled a goal back in the 40th minute when Llorente slammed the ball into the roof of the net from close range. That breakthrough was no more than Athletic deserved and they nearly made it 2-2 eight minutes into the second half when Susaeta brought a flying save out of Casillas with a 25-yard free-kick. Athletic would come no closer to drawing level, though, as within two minutes they found themselves 3-1 down. Di Maria won a penalty after being sent flying by Susaeta and Ramos, who somewhat surprisingly stepped up to take the kick, fired his shot into the top corner to increase Madrid's lead. Ronaldo made it 4-1 in the 62nd minute with a 35-yard free-kick that Athletic goalkeeper Iraizoz will feel disappointed to have let in. The Portugal international completed the scoring late on after Athletic had came close to pulling a late goal back when Javi Martinez hit the crossbar from close range. Esteban Granero was fouled inside the area by Amorebieta and Ronaldo netted a twice-taken penalty to increase his league tally to 14 for the season.
  12. congratulations to him:)

Navas desperate for Sevilla return Sevilla wing wizard Jesus Navas is chomping at the bit to return back to the fold after being troubled by an ankle injury. Navas went under the knife two weeks ago to cure a bone problem in his ankle but he is not anticipated to return onto the pitch till the new year. The World Cup winning member with the Spanish national side remarked to AS: "I have wanted to return to action, but I still have strange feeling in the injury. It is still early, and I must wait a further two weeks to see how it progresses." Navas refused to comment over details of a new contract offered by the Andalucian outfit, insisting: "I am not at all concerned about it. What I want to do is to recover soon, be calm, and help the team." The flying winger also believed that his country's 4-0 thumping at the hands of Portugal will serve as a blessing in disguise for the European champions. He added: "It was a good result for them, but Spain had a very good World Cup and next year we will start stronger."

OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT Realmadrid.com Real Madrid C. F. wishes to express the deep rejection and unrest caused by the decision made by the State Commission against Violence to urge the Spanish Football Federation to "take appropriate measures" in relation to statements made by our coach, Jose Morinho. Real Madrid finds it surprising that said statements, which mention an objecive and punishable fact, have been compared to those made by Sporting Gijon coach Manuel Preciado, who publically and very seriously insulted and discredited our coach. Preciado also made threatening remarks relying on violent crowds, clearly aiming at creating a hostile and inappropriate environment for any kind of sport competition. Jose Mourinho made his statements as a defence of the sportsmanship that should prevail in every football match, from the beginning to the very end of the competition, as is regarded in the vast majority of European championships and manifested in the 25th Article of the Spanish FA Disciplinary Code.

Mourinho to back Portugal Ryder bid Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho has agreed to become the ambassador for Portugal's bid to host the Ryder Cup in 2018. "I always play to win and I know everyone connected to the 2018 Portuguese Ryder Cup bid is exactly the same," said the former Chelsea boss. Mourinho does not play golf, but has spoken about what staging the match at the Tom Fazio-designed Herdade da Comporta would do for his country. "Comporta is a region I have cherished and known since an early age, due to its proximity to my home town of Setubal. "It is one of Europe's best-kept secrets, with its tranquil beaches and clear blue sea, with rice paddies as far as the eye can see and overwhelming natural beauty. "Organising the Ryder Cup will allow Portugal to show its best to the world, something we should all work towards, to establish our country as a high-quality tourism destination. "To always win and to take Portugal's name to the four corners of the world, that's the challenge I set myself each day and that's the goal Comporta is committed to." A decision will be taken next spring on whether to take the match back to Spain - Valderrama played host in 1997 under Seve Ballesteros' captaincy - or whether to go to Portugal, France, Germany or Holland. The 2012 contest is in Chicago and the 2014 match at Gleneagles in Scotland.

Real Madrid vs Athletic Bilbao Preview Athletic Bilbao have the odds stacked against them as they look to end Jose Mourinho's record-breaking start. Mourinho has led Real Madrid to nine victories and two draws in his first 11 league games in the hotseat, which is the best return from a coach making his debut in La Liga. That success has left Madrid a point clear at the top of the Primera Division standings, while the Spanish giants have been equally as successful in the Champions League and Copa del Rey, where they have progressed through to the last 16 of both competitions. As well as that, Madrid also boast the attacking and defensive records in the league, netting 28 goals and conceding just five, while in Cristiano Ronaldo they boast the leading scorer in the division with 11 goals. That all makes bleak reading for eighth-placed Athletic, who have their own problems to worry about as well. The Basque outfit have won just 13 times in 79 visits to the Bernabeu down the years, losing 51, while in their last 12 league and cup visits to Madrid`s home ground Athletic have suffered 11 defeats and conceded an average of more than three goals per game in those matches. Athletic have also picked up only one point from their last four away games this season. Coach Joaquin Caparros said: "We want to have a good game to break, not only the bad run at the Bernabeu in recent years, but also the negative run of results away from home this season. "We`ve prepared so as to have a good game and that everything turns out how we want." Athletic captain Pablo Orbaiz added: "To win at a ground like this is special. It`s clear that they have a very fast and very strong team who create a lot of chances and it`s difficult to beat them, but Real Madrid have always been like that. "I`ve played against (Zinedine) Zidane, Ronaldo, (Luis) Figo, and those players are at the same level of those who they have now. "Real Madrid always have a great team, and this season is the same. We are, as always, going there with plenty of respect but with all the hope in the world to have a good game. "We know it`s a difficult place to go, but we`re not going to gift them anything. We hope to have a good day and things go well." Athletic make the trip to the capital 13 points behind in-form Madrid, who stayed top of the pack after beating Sporting Gijon with a late Gonzalo Higuain goal last week. Mourinho watched that game from the stands due to a two-game touchline ban and the Portuguese will complete that suspension tomorrow. In his place on the bench will be assistant coach Aitor Karanka, who as a player came up through the youth ranks at Athletic and played for the Basque outfit both before and after his spell at Madrid at the turn of the millennium.

Valdano hits out at "gross mistake" Real Madrid director general Jorge Valdano has leapt to the defence of Jose Mourinho for his verbal outburst. This came after the State Commission against Violence called for the Portuguese coach and Sporting Gijon counterpart Manolo Preciado to face disciplinary action over their recent spat. The commission requested that the Spanish Football Federation take "appropriate disciplinary action" after the two coaches crossed swords in a war of words ahead of their meeting last weekend, with Mourinho claiming Preciado had "gifted" victory to Barcelona several weeks ago by fielding a weakened team. Preciado told Mourinho he would have been "thrown in jail" in England for making such an accusation, branding him a "swine". The commission said the comments "contributed to the creation of a hostile climate between the participants and supporters, especially in a match already deemed to be high risk". But Valdano claimed the commission had made a "gross mistake" in their assessment of the situation. "It is a gross mistake to put Mourinho and Preciado at the same level because of their statements," he said. "One coach used solid arguments while the other used defamation. Both statements can't be regarded to be at the same level. "Mourinho shouldn't stop being Mourinho. He was hired for his personality and he can express his feelings whenever he wants as long as he doesn't overstep his mark. "We don't want to point fingers at who should be punished. This debate has been started again today and Preciado still has time to apologise for overstepping his mark. "Just the other day, he said he had been unfortunate in the way he expressed himself. I now hope he does he same regarding his use of the word 'swine'."
